“I remove tumors out of people’s bodies and fill their brains up with knowledge.”
Hr. Dr. Kasper
Richard and Sigrid’s son. Cedrick’s father. Freyja’s husband.
Sarcastic, cranky, crass, and disheveled, Hr. Dr. Kasper is the hospital’s top Oncological Surgeon and university’s least favorite Substitute Biology Professor. Growing up bullied for being smart and geeky in appearance, he’s a no-nonsense man who does everything by the book and doesn’t tolerate people who are lazy and make inappropriate jokes. People often fear him because of his intimidating height and unnatural odd-colored gaze; many also whisper behind his back, questioning why he’s even a doctor or bother teaching. Even though he’s been called “Hothead Hans” by past and rival colleagues, Hr. Dr. Kasper does occasionally show off a cool, calm, and compassionate side that’s more than willing to help out whenever someone is struggling with a problem. The Herr Doktor can also be quite a gentleman and sweetheart if you catch him in a good mood when he’s not so busy – he’ll treat you with a slice of homemade Strudel or Baumkuchen, a cup of black coffee or green matcha tea, and a civil conversation on any topic of your choice.
There are a few things are guaranteed to put a smile on his face: family (except for his father-in-law Erik and father Richard/Death), a good read from a book or magazine, a moist slice of Prinsesstårten, and the perfect cup of hot black coffee with no more than two teaspoonfuls of sugar. Otherwise, expect a condescending glare from the Herr Doktor if he deems your work and coffee-making skills unsatisfactory. Speaking of coffee, don’t randomly order or make him anything with milk and cream in it without knowing. Why? Lactose is not a friend to him and his son Cedrick – almost all Kaspers are lactose intolerant despite being from the land where the Holstein dairy cow originated.
Johannes Faustuz is the future patriarch of the Kasper Family. He was given this role by his grandfather Olaf over his older cousin Hansel because of his inherited “Odin’s Eye” (“Wodans Auge” in his native language) – a magical ability to see the strength and weaknesses of mythical creatures; this trait is expressed as Heterochromia, or “odd-eyes’ with the left eye being blue while the right is green. Being the descendant of plague doctors, witch-hunters, bodysnatchers, Nazi scientists, and being the only son of Death when he had a human incarnation, Faustuz grew up persecuted by other families involved with the occult and mythological (his older cousins Hansel and Hannah don’t get as much attention because neither can see souls and lack the ability to fight monsters effectively; they’re also half Japanese and don’t physically look like what most expect Kaspers to look like). But because of his dark familial history and unique ability to gage monsters with his right eye, many rely on him to provide knowledge of rouge creatures and being able to get rid of them. He’s also very accurate in diagnosing diseases and predicting how long a patient has left to live, earning the title “The White Grim Reaper” at work (which is exactly what he is – a Grim Reaper/Monster Hunter under the guise of a medical doctor).
Faustuz also has numerous test tubes full of mutant fruit flies, a stash of questionable jarred specimens, and a menagerie of mythical creatures living at home, adding to the scrutiny of others. He also has a large collection of stuff he accumulated that would make any geek gush with nostalgic joy and excitement (he was born in the 1980s and grew up in the 1990s, making him a Millennial).
