Oh Instagram with your silly square format...✂️ - If Cedrick is “The Boy With Odd Eyes”, his father Johannes Faustuz is “The Oncologist With Heterochromia”. Heterochromia is the scientific way of saying odd-colored eyes, and both father and son have it; in some cases, it’s a dominant trait. For the Kaspers, only those who inherit blue eye genes from both parents will get it - almost always one eye being green and the other blue (few times there has been brown and blue eye combinations, like Hansel’s daughter Leisa). Heterochromia for the Kaspers also means they inherit an ability to see the strengths and weaknesses of mythical creatures as well as see hidden beings that could potentially become harmful (such as Ghosts and Yōkai). The ability also allows for Faustuz and Cedrick to have perfect eyesight at the cost of mental and physical energy (this explains their addiction to caffeine, constant snacking, need for power naps, and often being grouchy at the hospital). - I was debating whether I wanted to draw this pic like the last one, but there’s just something about the pencil brush texture that kept me from doing that. Color/Light Study. This took me 3 DAYS to make this! And I probably just blinded a lot of people without using obnoxious colors, lol. - I usually don’t draw pics like this, but intimate scenes often use dramatic lighting for mood, so that’s why it’s what it is. The other idea in mind was sleeping in bed the “normal” way, but drawing someone just sleeping isn’t really interesting - unless he’s drooling and flipped over with a foot on the wall. I’m trying different things, but I can tell that short one-page comics aren’t liked so much as the full-page animated pics for obvious reasons. Happy Christmas Day!🎄 And I’m ( 12 x 3 ) - 4. So far, this is my favorite color scheme I’ve done. I love bright neon chartreuse, and I figured darker colors would balance it out - therefore the Williamses are the right set of characters for this study. And they are also some of the most fun characters to draw. - ‼️SENSITIVE TOPIC BELOW‼️ - I’m still working on drawing diverse characters since it’s something that haunts me from my fledgling artist days. I had been accused of drawing only white people, and well...I’m going to be blunt about my background: I’m half White (other half Asian), grew up surrounded by mostly White people, and childhood dolls... yeah, classic blonde Barbie dolls except for the redhead Midge and Hispanic Teresa dolls. So culturally, I’m very White American despite being mixed (only Asian things I was exposed to growing up were family, church, food, Asian markets, Sanrio, and Anime; I also wasn’t accepted by many other Asian girls I’ve met in school because I was told I was too White). So being around other kinds of people wasn’t much of a thing until I was in High School, College, and work. - There’s also some challenges about drawing ethnic characters. Darker skin tones are tricky without getting so muddied and dark you can’t see details/line art (you can see it a little actually in this pic). Also, I’m deathly afraid of drawing/coloring in a character and s/he looking like a caricature of the ethnicity I’m trying to depict. Not doing a good job drawing them in a respectful way will get unwanted attention (again, the Kaspers are safest to draw because what I’m most familiar with visually, and sadly we live in a world where “White” still considered the “cultural standard”). - I’m so sorry for rambling on about this sensitive topic, but it’s something I try to improve on as an artist. Cedrick is still technically a kid at age 15 so he’s not too old for juice boxes, lol. (I still drink out of juice and milk boxes myself, and I’m not a kid) The juice boxes are also because he’s not allowed to drink alcohol during social gatherings (legal drinking age where the Kaspers work is 21; back in their home country it’s 16). - And looking at his juice box makes me feel uneasy because it’s all citrus juice, which is very acidic despite being tasty. Circa 1992 when Johannes Faustuz meets his future wife Freyja, a foreign exchange student from Sweden. At age 10, Freyja was a lot taller than Faustuz even though he’s older by six months; this will be the case until they’re 13 when he starts getting much taller than her. - They first formally meet in the library where his aunt Yoko works. Freyja was looking for old English literature books, but noticed several fairies flying around; she follows them to see a boy she recognizes from her class reading a large stack of books on mythical creatures, mythology, biology, and science fiction. Freyja confronts Faustuz about the fairies and books, learning that he’s a Kasper, a family like hers familiar with everything mysterious and mythical. These two lovebirds again.
