This is what I’ve been working on for the last few weeks — finally a new short story done after over 2 years, but this time it’s featuring Johannes’ parents Sigrid and Richard. So I know it’s currently a trend rn, but people really need to respect Miyazaki and just learn how to draw if they really want to appreciate his art…😒 Someone out there likened using ai to recreate the Ghibli art style is like a person saying microwaving a frozen pizza makes him a professional chef. It can be fun tool to use, but ai is sucking out the experience of creativity and appreciation of work; it’s making people really think art is just some quick, easy, cheap gimmick when in reality it took many lifetimes to get where we’re at. I don’t hate ai as in can be a useful tool to help in the process [as well as assist in many other things such as searching for cures for diseases and programming], but exclusively using it to make stuff is soulless—art will always need a human touch. A little practice after almost 2 years being tortured by Duolingo - and I still think I’m no good.🥲 … Well, I’m actually doing good reading German and French, though spelling words without a Wörterbuch is a NIGHTMARE. 💀 Listening is a little hit-‘n-miss, but I’m able to understand some phrases without looking at the subtitles on Netflix. Each language has their quirk and frustrations (i.e. FRENCH with their stupid silent letters, GERMAN with split verbs and 3 “Genders”), but sometimes I’m having fun and blaze through my lessons with ease. (And for anyone wondering, yes I still write most of my notes in cursive - or what some jokingly call “Doctor Writings” because so many can’t read cursive at all these days and it looks a lot like a handwritten doctor’s prescription) - In Sigrid’s pic, some of her labels have Danish in red underneath the German showing how very similar those words are (makes sense since Denmark and Germany are right next to each other). My pics are also cutoff in order to fit the 4:5 ratio, so not everything is in frame (original format for both are 2:3). I had a lot of fun with each color scheme, one being warm and the other cool in tone (the pics are also complementary to each other). #sketchdump featuring Sigrid’s younger half-brother Torben & their father Samuel. Torben physically takes after his mother (blond hair & brown eyes), but has a similar sweet demeanor like his older sibling. He’s extremely attached to Sigrid, making him protective towards his classmates at the boys academy (many of them have crushes on her). He personally didn’t like Sigrid’s childhood crush Batty due to his overall cold behavior - especially towards Sigrid and children in general. On the other hand, Torben was more than happy meeting Richard seeing how well he treats Sigrid and would return lost balls & toys back to the neighborhood kids; he also thinks Grim Reapers are more interesting than Warlocks because they not only can use teleportation spells but also weapons to fight monsters & collect lost souls. Samuel is Denmark’s strongest Warlock; he appears to be a man in his 50s, but is over 200 years old & extends his lifespan through life curses, placing him under Death’s watchlist. Being a proud man, he cursed Sigrid mainly because she wasn’t born a son or even an Enchantress, but also because his daughter was born with a mutation that gave her so much more “Magical Potential” than any European Warlock on record. Because he cursed their daughter, Aina changed her name and left with Sigrid to set up her flower & oddities shop. Samuel soon remarried to the Enchantress headmistress Sarah, having Torben a few years later; because Sarah still wanted a daughter, he tolerated her request to allow Sigrid to attend her academy until the life curse takes effect. Character Sheet: Tyrone’s grandmother Louella Williams - Both Tricia and Queenie inherited their great-grandmother’s sass and ability to see the occult world, but not her magical powers (Tyrone has no magical abilities or knowledge of the occult community being raised by an aunt and uncle in an upscale neighborhood away from his immediate family); only recently Grammy has been visiting more often since Tricia’s mother’s death and Queenie first started seeing “beyond the veil”. Tyrone avoids talking about her, often calling her “unhinged”, but both Hr. Dr. Kasper and Cedrick are quite curious about her since they want to learn more about her magical culture for scholarly purposes (they also have Oma Aina whom many ostracize because of her albinism, knowledge of potions, and allowing her daughter Sigrid marry a Kasper). Like Asia, Grammy doesn’t like Hr.
