This is what I’ve been working on for the last few weeks — finally a new short story done after over 2 years, but this time it’s featuring Johannes’ parents Sigrid and Richard.
[IG is only letting me post 20 at a time, but this is most of the story; I’ll have the remaining pages in the next post]
—
Copenhagen, 1985. Sigrid is sixteen, brilliant, cursed—and marked by Death.
When a Fossegrim tries to drown her in a haunted fountain, she’s saved by a towering figure with mismatched eyes and a bloody scythe. His name is Richard Kasper, and he is Death Himself.
But Death doesn’t just want her soul—he wants to protect her.
And Death never lets go.

Ai Dark Fantasy vibes here with Death…
[also AOT for obvious reasons]
His face would normally be divided up into quarters if drawn, but a more realistic approach would be showing more of his skeletal structure like this.
Each transformation from human form into deity would also be different in the amount of bone shows and flesh remains.

Speed art of Death / Der Sensenmann (Richard Kasper, Johannes’ father).
[approx. 1h 25m total time]
The original concept for Death was inspired by The Grim Reaper from the Swedish film “SEVENTH SEAL” and was meant to be Freyja’s father, Erik, since he’s Swedish. However, considering Erik’s animosity towards his son-in-law Johannes and realizing that version of Death would be too literal (a hunched man cloaked in black), I drew inspiration from one of my all-time favorite “TWILIGHT ZONE” episodes, “Nothing in the Dark.” In this episode, Death disguises himself as a handsome policeman injured by gunfire and convinces an old woman to let him into her home to recover. This episode inspired three OCs: Robert Redford’s portrayal of Death influenced Richard’s final look, the police officer idea led to the creation of Batty Sorensen, and the old woman inspired Sigrid’s mother, Aina.[Sigrid’s character design was inspired by a combination of Sarah from “LABYRINTH” and actress Brooke Shields, who was popular in the 1980s - the time period when she and Richard met]

A Grim Reaper and his junior…
As descendants of Death, both Johannes and Cedrick exhibit black skeletal tattoos when they perform their tasks of collecting souls and eliminating rogue monsters. They also possess “Odin’s Eye” - a unique magical trait exclusive to the Kasper Family. This ability allows them to see souls, lifespans, health conditions, and the strengths and weaknesses of whoever or whatever they gaze upon. When activated, their right green eye glows yellow, while the left blue eye remains normal (in many cultures, it is believed that people with heterochromia can perceive both the earthly and heavenly realms simultaneously).

Stern the Amabie has been sneaking out of her fishbowl for some cookies. At least she’s not using Johannes‘ tea as a hot bath - a teacup is the perfect size for her to soak in.
Stern was found by the Kasper’s Norwegian Forest Cat Klimt, nearly perished by dehydration. Though it’s essential she stays in her fishbowl for safety and health, she tends to crawl out to explore her immediate surroundings and involve herself in whatever a family member is doing (she enjoys reading and watching TV the most).

Heinrich stepped away from collecting souls after marrying Yoko, focusing more on investigating and researching monster sightings; he was known as the “White Ghost of Kiel” with his use of smoke to conceal his identity, while Richard was known as the “Red Devil of Kiel” - even called “Death Incarnate” because of efficient yet gruesome methods (their father Olaf was known as the “Black Skull of Kiel”because of his distinctive burn scars on his face from WW2).
Would you like to see Heinrich drawn as a Grim Reaper?
“Merry Christmas you filthy animal!”
It’s finally that time of the year again, and Cedrick felt like sharing a little tidbit on Mari Llwyd - a Welsh celebration featuring a singing zombie horse that wants inside your house for food, drink, and merrymaking.

Tea or coffee? // Tee oder Kaffee?

16/16: Hansel Kasper in the art style of “SHAMAN KING”
Hansel Kasper, the eldest cousin of Hr. Dr. Kasper, is the son of Heinrich and Yoko and the older brother of Hannah. Hansel's appearance breaks from the typical Kasper look, with hazel-brown eyes and nearly black hair, a stark contrast to the family's signature blond hair and heterochromia (one blue eye, one green eye). Although he didn't inherit the "Odin's Eye" trait, the role of heir skipped to his younger cousin Johannes. Nevertheless, Hansel continues the family tradition as a Grim Reaper, adopting the appearance of a Jeoseung Saja, reflecting his Korean heritage.
Initially, Hansel and Hannah didn't like have a younger sibling after their parents took in Johannes following Richard's "death." Given their significant age gap, they found it challenging to connect with a young child with unique emotional needs. However, over time, they grew closer, especially as Johannes began to resemble their beloved father and adored uncle Richard with his tall stature, fair complexion, blond hair, and heterochromia.
While Hansel didn't pursue a medical career like his uncle Richard, he settled into the nursing profession, enjoying the company of people. When Johannes returns home to Kiel from Los Angeles, Hansel joins him as his nurse, forming a medical trio of Kaspers. In his younger years, Hansel shared his uncle's appreciation for attractive women, even marrying three times, resulting in two daughters from his first two marriages: Evangeline and Elisabeth-Keiko. His third marriage ended in divorce due to infidelity and incompatible work schedules. Hansel has also shown a romantic interest in Johannes' fellow nurse Kimiko, sparking a minor rivalry with Vinnie and triggering Johannes' protective instincts.

15/16: Vinnie DeValeur in the art style of “JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE”
Vincent-Claude "Vinnie" DeValeur, the son of the hospital's director Dr. Leyon DeValeur, is a versatile professor at the University, teaching Biology, Anthropology, and Archeology. He's often called away for excavations involving occult artifacts, entrusting his classroom duties to his colleague, Hr. Dr. Johannes Kasper. Vinnie adopts an informal teaching style, usually laid-back but strict in grading exams, whereas Johannes takes a more formal and thorough approach to ensure students pass.
Vinnie's heritage traces back to "Pied-Noir" refugees, carrying profound knowledge of the occult, and speculation lingers about his true age due to ancestral ties to Iberian, North African, and Middle Eastern magic. With his charming (yet tattooed and pierced “Bad-Boy”) appearance featuring tanned skin, long dark hair, sapphire-blue eyes, and a captivating smile, Vinnie has a penchant for chain-smoking and flirting with women - even among his students - regardless of their marital status or age (such as Hannah Kasper, Freyja Ström, Tricia Williams, and Kimiko Abe). Johannes often feels uncomfortable around Vinnie due to these habits but appreciates having an experienced expert in the unnatural, sometimes sharing a drink with hospital coworker Tyrone while entertaining Vinnie's company at the local sports bar.

12/16: Herr Doktor Johannes Faustuz Kasper in the art style of “BLACK BUTLER”
Johannes, often affectionately referred to as "Faustuz" or “Hans” and bearing the Kasper family's distinctive "Odin's Eye," stands as the current heir to the Kasper Bloodline. His striking presence, marked by long platinum-blond hair, a lithe yet muscular physique, stern spectacled gaze, and towering height of nearly two meters, commands attention. Johannes is a man of unwavering directness, disliking idleness and frivolity. Many have described him as "cuddly as a porcupine," "stiff as a corpse," and "stale as day-old Brötchen." However, beneath this austere exterior, Johannes harbors deep affection for his family and closest friends. He surprises with his tenderness toward his wife Freyja, his gentle yet firm approach with his son Cedrick, and his remarkable volatility when it comes to his father-in-law, Erik. He takes his coffee black, piping hot, with no more than two spoonfuls of sugar, and without a hint of milk or cream due to his lactose intolerance, a trait shared by numerous Kaspers - including his son Cedrick. By day, Johannes dons the roles of a Surgical Oncologist and a Substitute Professor, and by night, he seamlessly transitions into the grim duty of a Grim Reaper. Accompanied by his father, cousin Hansel, and son, he confronts monsters and guides lost souls. Johannes' complex relationship with his father, Richard, who "died" and reverted to his skeletal form, has left him with a lingering sense of bitterness despite Death's attempts at reconciliation.

11/16: Cedrick Kasper in the art style of “NARUTO”
Cedrick Kasper, the young teenage son of Hr. Dr. Johannes Kasper and Freyja Ström, is a prodigious talent, excelling in both human and occult knowledge. He possesses the coveted "Odin's Eye," a vast mental encyclopedia, and exhibits exceptional Reaper skills akin to his esteemed predecessors, following closely in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Cedrick's personality is a captivating blend, making it challenging to discern which side of the family he takes after more. He embodies the Kasper traits of temperance, skill, and efficiency, yet also exudes the kindness, creativity, and impulsiveness characteristic of the Ström lineage. There's a striking resemblance to his grandmother Sigrid, inheriting her quick wit, enthusiasm for knowledge-sharing and experimentation, and her telltale pout during moments of frustration. When his father embarks on international assignments, Cedrick assumes responsibilities at the hospital and tends to the collection of mythical creatures and pets that call their home theirs. Within his extended family, Cedrick enjoys harmonious relationships but finds his mother Freyja's affection sometimes overwhelming, considers his father Johannes a touch too serious, perceives his "uncle" Hansel as remarkably flamboyant, and sees his grandfather Erik as imposing with his lofty expectations. He holds a special fondness for his other grandfather, Richard, also known as Death, and his great-grandmother Aina, even though he's aware of the estrangement that followed Sigrid's passing.
