Cedrick and his father Johannes Faustuz with hot drinks. What kind of drinks? Both Kasper guys are lactose intolerant, so most likely straight black coffee or soy versions of popular holiday drinks (the soy version of the peppermint mocha coffee latte is delicious). Where the Kaspers come from, Winter is cold, rainy, and often snowy.
(It’s currently cold and raining were I live; it’s really feeling like Winter yet it’s still technically Autumn)

Haven’t seen the sequel yet.
I did like “FROZEN”, but not as much as “MOANA” tbh (the Hans twist was a bit awkward and out of place). Might also be because my name is Anna and my husband is Christopher (his credit/ID cards actually says Christoph, so yes, people do geek out when they see our names together).

Since the Kaspers are Scandinavian (she’s Swedish and he’s German of Danish ancestry), everything in their home combines both ideas of Hygge and Lagom. “Hygge” is the Danish term for warmth and happiness in the simple things in life; the Swedish “Lagom” concept is all about living with the right amount of stuff without being too excessive.

Papa Ström wears a Santa suit sweater obviously because he’s got a beard and white hair. Freyja even joked her father is a “bad-ass Santa Claus” (her husband and son would disagree). Papa Ström isn’t known for kindness, but is often generous in showering his family with gifts - especially for his daughter and grandson.

Freyja wears a green sweater like her husband with a big yellow bow and tag that says “DO NOT OPEN UNTIL X-MAS”. No commentary is required to explain why she’s wearing her sweater.😗

It’s officially ugly sweater season, and only a month away from Christmas. Both Kasper boys are wearing their sweaters from Mama this year.

Cedrick is wearing a bright red sweater with Krampus on it. In recent years, Krampus had appeared in pop culture (had anyone else seen the movie?), and the Kaspers are no strangers to mythical creatures. Also the word “NAUGHTY” is something a teenager would wear. And Krampus just seems like a fun take on the Santa lore (I recently found out Krampus is only one of many Santa’s helpers; he’s got Knecht Ruprecht, Zwarte Pete, etc.).

As for Papa Kasper, he’s got a green sweater with Jesus Christ. Christmas is really a combination of an ancient Roman celebration for the sun god and Germanic festivities, but leave it to the Catholics to make it all about Jesus - which led to the overly commercialized holiday that it is today. And big hint: “BIRTHDAY BOY” isn’t just for Jesus (yes, I made my OC born during the holidays just like me).

So far, this is my favorite color scheme I’ve done. I love bright neon chartreuse, and I figured darker colors would balance it out - therefore the Williamses are the right set of characters for this study. And they are also some of the most fun characters to draw.

I’m still working on drawing diverse characters since it’s something that haunts me from my fledgling artist days. I had been accused of drawing only white people, and well...I’m going to be blunt about my background: I’m half White (other half Asian), grew up surrounded by mostly White people, and childhood dolls... yeah, classic blonde Barbie dolls except for the redhead Midge and Hispanic Teresa dolls. So culturally, I’m very White American despite being mixed (only Asian things I was exposed to growing up were family, church, food, Asian markets, Sanrio, and Anime; I also wasn’t accepted by many other Asian girls I’ve met in school because I was told I was too White).
So being around other kinds of people wasn’t much of a thing until I was in High School, College, and work.

There’s also some challenges about drawing ethnic characters. Darker skin tones are tricky without getting so muddied and dark you can’t see details/line art (you can see it a little actually in this pic). Also, I’m deathly afraid of drawing/coloring in a character and s/he looking like a caricature of the ethnicity I’m trying to depict. Not doing a good job drawing them in a respectful way will get unwanted attention (again, the Kaspers are safest to draw because what I’m most familiar with visually, and sadly we live in a world where “White” still considered the “cultural standard”).

I’m so sorry for rambling on about this sensitive topic, but it’s something I try to improve on as an artist. We live in a world with all kinds of people out there, and they all deserve to be drawn.

It’s official - my husband and I are going to Japan next month!
We’re off to Shinjuku/Tokyo to check out whatever we can cram in a week, lol.
To get hyped, I was suggested to draw something “Japanesey”, and this is the result: Aunt Yoko, her son Hansel (Hanzo), daughter Hannah (Hana), and nephew Johannes Faustuz (Fausto) in traditional Japanese garb.

Hansel and Hannah are “halfu” while Faustuz is “gaijin” (specifically “doisujin”), but all three Kasper siblings definitely look alike in many ways. Being the youngest and odd one out (especially after Uncle Heinrich’s death), Faustuz tried many things to make his aunt less spiteful of him - learning to write/speak Japanese, making origami flowers as gifts, keeping his grades up in school so he’ll become a doctor, and going so far as dumping black ink on his head to make his hair dark like the rest of the family.
Yoko still isn’t quite attached to her nephew (it pains her to see him look like her late husband), but his cousins are much more appreciative of his work and presence now since he reminds them so much of their father.

Like her niece Tricia, Asia Williams is not too fond of either of the Kasper men, especially Johannes Faustuz since her husband spends so much time with him - sometimes more than her, which makes her jealous of Faustuz. But when it comes to Freyja, she turns into a screaming fan girl just being around her favorite TV show host.
Unlike the rest of the Williams, Asia calls Faustuz “Jo” or “Jojo” instead of “Hans”, but is still like her family in not calling him by his preferred names (first and middle, just his middle, or his title and last name).

Also featured is Queenie’s overly worn out teddy bear Mr. Bellybutton Fluff. He’s been her favorite toy since she was a baby, and has gone through numerous repairs and checkups over the years since Queenie first met the Kaspers (he’s made up of scraps from worn out scrubs).
