Yoko really wanted patriarch Olaf to take care of Faustuz when he was orphaned as a toddler; Heinrich didn’t want their nephew to be raised by “a xenophobic man who still believes in the old ways”. Reluctantly, Yoko continues raising Faustuz just as her husband wanted. For Johannes Faustuz, bullying from his classmates gets worse, leading him to constant fights and suspensions. Because he can’t go back to school, Faustuz is stuck with Yoko at the public library where she works. There he easily reads up on all kinds of knowledge and literature - and meets Freyja (she was a Swedish foreign exchange student in his class, but never approached him because everyone else told her that “Hothead Hans” is trouble). - Skip ahead to December 23rd. Quick “Wunderkind’s Notes” on the turkey. Cedrick just thinks turkey is just an overrated big bird (which it is; I actually like roasted chicken or duck better). - Yes, Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the USA (turkeys are actually quite aggressive birds, just not very pretty to look at). And yes, turkey meat (if not cooked right) is dry and needs a heavy dose of gravy to make it more enjoyable. And cranberry sauce... don’t eat the canned stuff if you can avoid it. - The second slide is a written script of the spin-off to last year’s Tyrone’s turkey troubles. Kinda has a Goofy instructional video vibe to it, a little meta since the Kaspers are talking to the audience, but overall it’s so silly and not really worth making into a comic. It’s officially ugly sweater season, and only a month away from Christmas. Both Kasper boys are wearing their sweaters from Mama this year. - Cedrick is wearing a bright red sweater with Krampus on it. In recent years, Krampus had appeared in pop culture (had anyone else seen the movie?), and the Kaspers are no strangers to mythical creatures. Also the word “NAUGHTY” is something a teenager would wear. And Krampus just seems like a fun take on the Santa lore (I recently found out Krampus is only one of many Santa’s helpers; he’s got Knecht Ruprecht, Zwarte Pete, etc.). - As for Papa Kasper, he’s got a green sweater with Jesus Christ. Christmas is really a combination of an ancient Roman celebration for the sun god and Germanic festivities, but leave it to the Catholics to make it all about Jesus - which led to the overly commercialized holiday that it is today. It’s official - my husband and I are going to Japan next month! We’re off to Shinjuku/Tokyo to check out whatever we can cram in a week, lol. To get hyped, I was suggested to draw something “Japanesey”, and this is the result: Aunt Yoko, her son Hansel (Hanzo), daughter Hannah (Hana), and nephew Johannes Faustuz (Fausto) in traditional Japanese garb. — Hansel and Hannah are “halfu” while Faustuz is “gaijin” (specifically “doisujin”), but all three Kasper siblings definitely look alike in many ways. Being the youngest and odd one out (especially after Uncle Heinrich’s death), Faustuz tried many things to make his aunt less spiteful of him - learning to write/speak Japanese, making origami flowers as gifts, keeping his grades up in school so he’ll become a doctor, and going so far as dumping black ink on his head to make his hair dark like the rest of the family. The end of Queenie’s show-and-tell craziness. Despite all the trouble Queenie caused, Papa Kasper is putting himself out to take some of the heat from Momma Williams. - Like her niece Tricia, Asia Williams is not too fond of either of the Kasper men, especially Johannes Faustuz since her husband spends so much time with him - sometimes more than her, which makes her jealous of Faustuz. But when it comes to Freyja, she turns into a screaming fan girl just being around her favorite TV show host. Unlike the rest of the Williams, Asia calls Faustuz “Jo” or “Jojo” instead of “Hans”, but is still like her family in not calling him by his preferred names (first and middle, just his middle, or his title and last name). - Also featured is Queenie’s overly worn out teddy bear Mr. Bellybutton Fluff. Johannes Faustuz is such a dorky dad. He’s very proud of owning wallet photos in an age when most people just use their mobile phones to show off family photos (Cedrick, on the other hand, is extremely embarrassed his father actually carries his baby pictures in his wallet - see old pic in 2nd slide). - Queenie isn’t happy that she lost the spotlight, but she’s going to have a very long discussion with adults after the day is over. — I didn’t have the exact extreme circumstances as Queenie, but when I was in preschool for a joint show-and-tell with parents, we had to share baby pictures of ourselves. Everyone else had cute baby photos when they had chubby cheeks and open eyes; my mom picked out a photo of me as a sleeping newborn baby with a head full of spiky hair and wearing boy’s clothes. I was obviously not happy, and classmates made fun of me for not having a cute baby photo. So after class my teacher had to explain to me that my baby picture was actually quite normal for a newborn and everyone starts off looking not like the stereotypical baby. Moral of the story: sometimes you need a hard dose of reality and truth early on as a young child. Because of instances like that, I’m very well aware of how many things are not what they seem, and often times I’d rather see the reality and from there I’ll make my judgments. - So I guess it goes full circle in regards to my characters? Queenie is one troublemaker, always sneaking off to places she shouldn’t be in, doing things that’s not allowed, and asking questions about subjects that are not always the easiest to answer and explain to a 5-year-old. This often annoys her father Tyrone since he’s so busy working at the hospital, unable to keep an eye on her whenever she’s visiting; because of this, Queenie constantly sneaks into the Kaspers’ office and rummages through their stuff - mostly without permission. Johannes Faustuz is actually quite patient in dealing with Queenie since he’s a father of a Wunderkind, but at times he’s at his wits’ end whenever she does something so outrageous - like dumping the jarred Meerjungfrau into the aquarium, or this time opening his aunt’s package and pulling a private family photo out of it. ⛔️You have been warned⛔️ This idea has been in the scraps pile for obvious reasons, but with recent media being out there depicting this particular subject, I guess it’s a tad bit safer to bring it up? It’s going back to archives after awhile with an updated post with more details about these three Kaspers. It’s been hinted for a long time regarding Johannes Faustuz’s ancestors being involved with World War II. It’s time to show them: Randolf, Olaf, and Adolf - the Kaspers during the Second World War. Faustuz is very skittish about revealing his family’s history to others, afraid people will immediately treat him and his son Cedrick differently based off the fact his ancestors were not very good people. - The Kasper Family are snubbed by other families involved in the occult and mythological business due to their villainous behavior and historical circumstances (you can say the Kaspers are like Slytherin House in Harry Potter). It’s this very fact why Erik Ström didn’t want his only child Freyja falling in love and marrying Faustuz in the first place, even though he’s nothing like his predecessors (well, he’s just as hardheaded, intelligent, crafty, and occasionally creepy without being evil). Kaspers throughout the ages were known to be merchants, advisors, politicians, mercenaries, whatever profession that can be used to obtain resources in questionable ways. Looks like Papa Kasper is going to be a Viking for Halloween this year, lol. - The correct answer to my pop quiz was “Norwegian Forest Cat”. The Kaspers’ cat is a Weegie (also spelled Wegie, which is the nickname for this breed of cat), and boy is he trouble always catching and often killing small creatures only to bring them to his masters as offerings of love. Klimt also likes climbing up trees, but often gets stuck high up - thus Cedrick or Johannes Faustuz has to rescue him by climbing up and risking limbs. - Weegies are the most popular cat breed of Scandinavia for obvious reasons: they’re from Norway, they are tied to Norse mythology as the drivers of the goddess Freyja’s chariot, and were companions of Vikings.
