This is what I’ve been working on for the last few weeks — finally a new short story done after over 2 years, but this time it’s featuring Johannes’ parents Sigrid and Richard.
[IG is only letting me post 20 at a time, but this is most of the story; I’ll have the remaining pages in the next post]
—
Copenhagen, 1985. Sigrid is sixteen, brilliant, cursed—and marked by Death.
When a Fossegrim tries to drown her in a haunted fountain, she’s saved by a towering figure with mismatched eyes and a bloody scythe. His name is Richard Kasper, and he is Death Himself.
But Death doesn’t just want her soul—he wants to protect her.
And Death never lets go.

So I know it’s currently a trend rn, but people really need to respect Miyazaki and just learn how to draw if they really want to appreciate his art…😒
Someone out there likened using ai to recreate the Ghibli art style is like a person saying microwaving a frozen pizza makes him a professional chef.
It can be fun tool to use, but ai is sucking out the experience of creativity and appreciation of work; it’s making people really think art is just some quick, easy, cheap gimmick when in reality it took many lifetimes to get where we’re at.
I don’t hate ai as in can be a useful tool to help in the process [as well as assist in many other things such as searching for cures for diseases and programming], but exclusively using it to make stuff is soulless—art will always need a human touch.
This?
I lost count how many hours it took me to make this, and it’s not even animated like a Studio Ghibli film…
[it definitely took me more than 8 hours overall 💀]

My OCs Sigrid & Richard from the 1980s compared to their son Johannes in current times (2020s).
Which parent does Hans resembles the most?
•Retake: Sigrid enjoying the beach 🏖️ ☀️
I added some effects to make it more lively…

Why do I draw summery pics in the dead of Winter…?
[sometimes it actually feels like Summer during Winter with warm daytime temperatures, super dry and windy conditions, and the terrible wildfires rn over in LA - this isn’t normal for Winter 😭]
Anyway, I just felt like drawing all these - alongside a Chat GPT generated story based on the idea of Richard and Sigrid going to the beach. 🏖️ ☀️

Something I didn’t post months ago…
Just a pic of Cedrick with his parents…

Adding onto the string of mistletoe pics drawn around the holiday season every year since 2017.
Personally I feel like I’ve gotten sloppy over the years in regards to my work, but I have a job that’s been demanding more of my time (mostly commuting and setting up), I’ve been spending a lot more time with the pesky green owl learning German (ich spreche echt schlecht deutsch, aber ich kann deutsch lesen… kinda… I’d say “Baby Sprache” 🫠), major burnout, and the number of people actually looking at my pics is near nonexistent (I’m actually counting down to 0 on my number of followers 💀).

First pic of December 2020 (colored version).
Freyja and Johannes Faustuz have been kissing each holiday season since I’ve been more active in IG (2017’s entry of them as children).

We’re at peak #holidayseason right now, just right before the winter solstice. So obviously I have to draw something #festive for the season.
-
I drew these two as children #kissingunderthemistletoe about a year ago. This time I drew them as adults, with Freyja still the one pouncing on her beloved Johannes Faustuz.

Happy Birthday Zeddy! 🥳
—
Cedrick was my first official original character since about 2005/2006 when I was a teenager (yes, I’m THAT OLD).
Though he’s forever stuck at approximately the age of 14-15, if he was a real person he’d be all grown up at 18! 😱
(which is further painful to think about because I actually have former classmates who have kids that age, but only because they got pregnant as teenagers themselves)

A walk amongst the falling leaves in Copenhagen, Denmark where Sigrid is from (circa 1984)
October is my favorite month of the season, especially towards the end when things finally cool off and spooky times await.

Can never get a break from Hedy and Odin…
The fact that cats are known for having nine lives likely adds to Death’s (Richard’s) frustration with them. Cats’ legendary association with surviving danger and evading death makes them seem like natural antagonists to Death’s role. Their ability to seemingly “cheat” death while flaunting their carefree, mischievous behavior would annoy someone whose entire existence revolves around finality and the inevitability of death.
From Richard’s perspective, cats having “nine lives” means they represent the unpredictability he doesn’t particularly enjoy—they challenge the rules of mortality that he enforces. Every time a cat escapes a close brush with death, it adds another layer to his annoyance, as it defies the very thing he’s tasked with overseeing. And yet, cats persistently linger around him, sensing his presence and the souls he deals with, as if teasing him by existing in a space between life and death, mocking the limitations of ordinary creatures.
In this sense, cats’ notorious ability to “evade” death with their many lives only deepens Richard’s complicated relationship with them. While he may begrudgingly respect their resilience, it doesn’t mean he finds their company any less exasperating.
