Tricia doesn’t want to admit that she’s just as happy to see an adorable pink delivery van decorated with baked goods only because she’s with someone she thinks is a dork. - Tricia and Cedrick hang out together usually during tutoring sessions since she just started university while he’s a Wunderkind; she’s not doing particularly well with taking tests so he offered to help her study better. Cedrick is 15 while Tricia is 18, so neither one thinks of the other as a romantic interest but rather as distant acquaintances despite Tyrone’s wishes for his niece to like Cedrick. ————— A couple years ago, Arcadia had a Hello Kitty Cafe. Happy New Year! 🎆 I’ve been really busy with work, but now with one day off, I managed to draw my main OCs in a cutesy style. - Freyja’s hair color and style here matches more with her original design from 2005, but I overall prefer her with redder hair shown in her current design. Johannes Faustuz is by far my most consistent character based on looks, and Cedrick has become more younger, shorter, and “adorkable” considering the fact that he’s supposed to be about fifteen. - The second slide is a pic of them from early 2018 when I started being more active in Instagram; it’s a realistic style I’m not too fond of, and looking back at it now, the colors are nice but very flat. A quick pic of Johannes Faustuz and Freyja at age 10-11. It’s quite a bit early for Valentine’s Day, but it’s never off-season to show off some love. — Freyja and Faustuz have known each other for about thirty years, but like any couple, they have lots of rough times - whether it’s being separated because of work (he’s an oncologist, she’s involved with media), language barriers (Faustuz barely spoke English while Freyja only knew Swedish and English when they first met; Faustuz knew some Danish from his great-grandmother, which is similar to Swedish, but it was still difficult to understand each other for a long time without a German/English translation book; as adults they speak English but will switch to German to keep some conversations private), social class (she’s rich, he’s low-middle class), and their families not liking each other (the Ströms are very proud of their royal Viking heritage and making weapons; the Kaspers are shunned for their involvement with things like the Black Plague, witch-hunting, bodysnatching, and WW2). Back in the day when I was a wee student, I made pretend magazine covers. You’d think I’d be making tons of them now since I make promo graphics for a living, but nope. Well, I just randomly felt like making one for Freyja, and I did a lot of looking at fashion magazines. TBH, a lot of fashion magazines have too much text in front that it distracts from the photo. BUT it is a thick stack of paper ads with articles so I understand why there’s a lot of headlines on the cover, but then there’s a table of contents... *sigh* - Growing up in the 90s to early 2000s, there were lots of gorgeous supermodels and actresses that were all over the magazines and TV. Freyja is kinda a combination of Heidi Klum and Nicole Kidman, but a bit more Klum since Freyja is a model/TV host like her (“FLASH FASHION” is kinda an ode to “PROJECT RUNWAY”). - The magazine name should look familiar if you’ve looked carefully at some of my previous pics (check the last 2 slides and zoom in to find it). “DER MODISCHE” (“The Fashionable One”) is the name of Freyja’s magazine; “MODERN” was added in to emphasize the English on the cover, though I looked it up and in Swedish “modern” could mean “fashionable” (“mode” is “fashion” in both German and Swedish). - The art style is also softer, more realistic compared to my usual work. I also made sure Freyja has her freckles this time (she’s strawberry-blonde, so she should have them). When he’s away from everyone else, that’s when Krampus likes to drop by for a visit and eats a snack. One in disguise and in need of medical attention would be very afraid to see a Kasper ready to perform surgery on them because it might be their last chance to be alive - but only if the creature was known to cause any serious trouble amongst humans. — Aside from being doctors, our current Kaspers are known to be researchers and killers of rouge creatures. Most creatures fear them, regular people see them as eccentric, while fellow families involved in the same business of the mythical and occult view them as scum and low-class due to their ancestors’ involvement with dark moments of history (ie. Quick “Wunderkind’s Notes” on the turkey. Cedrick just thinks turkey is just an overrated big bird (which it is; I actually like roasted chicken or duck better). - Yes, Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the USA (turkeys are actually quite aggressive birds, just not very pretty to look at). And yes, turkey meat (if not cooked right) is dry and needs a heavy dose of gravy to make it more enjoyable. And cranberry sauce... don’t eat the canned stuff if you can avoid it. - The second slide is a written script of the spin-off to last year’s Tyrone’s turkey troubles. Kinda has a Goofy instructional video vibe to it, a little meta since the Kaspers are talking to the audience, but overall it’s so silly and not really worth making into a comic. (Seriously, who wants to hear Cedrick speak in sexy anatomical terms on how to carve a turkey?) Not all my comics have prepared scripts, and lots of times the final isn’t like the original. More ugly sweaters! This time it’s Mama Kasper and her father. - Papa Ström wears a Santa suit sweater obviously because he’s got a beard and white hair. Freyja even joked her father is a “bad-ass Santa Claus” (her husband and son would disagree). It’s officially ugly sweater season, and only a month away from Christmas. Both Kasper boys are wearing their sweaters from Mama this year. - Cedrick is wearing a bright red sweater with Krampus on it. In recent years, Krampus had appeared in pop culture (had anyone else seen the movie?), and the Kaspers are no strangers to mythical creatures. Also the word “NAUGHTY” is something a teenager would wear. And Krampus just seems like a fun take on the Santa lore (I recently found out Krampus is only one of many Santa’s helpers; he’s got Knecht Ruprecht, Zwarte Pete, etc.). - As for Papa Kasper, he’s got a green sweater with Jesus Christ. Christmas is really a combination of an ancient Roman celebration for the sun god and Germanic festivities, but leave it to the Catholics to make it all about Jesus - which led to the overly commercialized holiday that it is today.
