The Kaspers’ home office at night. ✨ The second page looks like Johannes Faustuz either caught his son Cedrick out past his curfew... or the Herr Doktor is secretly planning how to kill you. - This was a challenging piece to make: the details, coloring, and especially the lighting/shading. But it was also fun adding the items reflecting the family’s side job in dealing with mythical creatures and the occult (the jarred Meerjungfrau, fairy skulls, eyeballs). All three family members are avid readers, and there’s multiple languages featured in their titles (German, Swedish, English, Japanese) as well as various subjects related to their day jobs. There are also heirlooms that shows the Kasper Family have a dark history (alchemy, inquisition, WW2). Kaspers over the ages had always been advisors, scientists, and soldiers willing to serve to obtain and share their knowledge by all means - even if it crosses moral lines. Faustuz and Cedrick know the sins of their ancestors, and the heirlooms are painful reminders to not go down that path for the sake of their work. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #digitalsketch #ipaddrawing #ipadart #ipadproart #ipadrodrawing #sketchbookautodesk #pixeloop #animestyle #originalcharacter #characterart #malecharacter #man #interior #desk #shelfs #frauv8

Circa 1992 when Johannes Faustuz meets his future wife Freyja, a foreign exchange student from Sweden. At age 10, Freyja was a lot taller than Faustuz even though he’s older by six months; this will be the case until they’re 13 when he starts getting much taller than her. - They first formally meet in the library where his aunt Yoko works. Freyja was looking for old English literature books, but noticed several fairies flying around; she follows them to see a boy she recognizes from her class reading a large stack of books on mythical creatures, mythology, biology, and science fiction. Freyja confronts Faustuz about the fairies and books, learning that he’s a Kasper, a family like hers familiar with everything mysterious and mythical. Because of their shared history and interests, the two become very close over the years despite not being able to be together all the time. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #animestyle #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #boy #femalecharacter #girl #children #couple #frauv8_ocs

The Kasper Family at an earlier time when Cedrick was a lot shorter and Johannes Faustuz had short hair; Freyja hasn’t changed much since except how she styles her hair. This would probably be when Cedrick was about 10 years old. (Faustuz was born in 23 December 1981; Freyja was born 30 June 1982; I still haven’t decided whether Cedrick will be born in 2006 or 2017 since those are the two most recent times October Friday the 13th had occurred) - The colors I picked for this pic screams Fall, but the weather here in SoCal screams Summer - it’s been super hot the last several days.🥵🌡 Cedrick’s sweater has each of his parents’ family symbols: the Kaspers’ black skull and the Ströms’ spiral. Freyja’s outfit was based off a sold-out piece of clothing according to a fashion article (see 4th slide), while Faustuz just wears a basic collared shirt and slacks with typical aviator-framed glasses (reference last slide); both Freyja and Faustuz are wearing wedding rings this time. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #animestyle #halftone #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #family #frauv8 #frauv8_ocs

Kappa is a papa to a baby Kappa - it’s a boy! - Aunt Yoko wants to keep the Yōkai more than ever now that’s there’s a baby one. But it’s still up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or not. - In this case, these Yōkai became attached to where they’re born and humans depending on circumstances. Kappa and Garappa both hatched in Kiel and grew attached to Uncle Heinrich when he was alive. Kappa is also attached to Johannes Faustuz, but his mate Garappa wants to stay where they were born. And now with a baby that also hatched in Kiel, it’s more unlikely that they’ll leave. Hyōsube wasn’t born in Kiel - she was brought over from Hiroshima as a baby attached to an eggplant. She has no attachment to Kiel, and with Uncle Heinrich dead for almost thirty years, Hyōsube actually would like to live with Johannes Faustuz and his family. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #yokai #kappa #garappa #frauv8

Papa Ström returns!🧔🏼 - Papa Ström and Cedrick have arrived at Kiel to transport the Yōkai back to California, only to find out Aunt Yoko suddenly wants to keep them. Johannes Faustuz is having a meltdown seeing these two with dueling emotions - fear of his father-in-law, and disappointment towards his son. I should draw the poor guy’s expression for the next page, lol. But again, it’s up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or not; it’s also been about three days since Garappa laid her egg, so it should be hatching pretty soon. - Erik Ström is one of my favorite OCs: he’s a bad-ass Grandpa with a tough exterior, but melts like butter when it comes to family- especially for his daughter Freyja and grandson Cedrick. Papa Ström is from a long proud line of Viking warriors and weapon makers, making him an expert on what to use in killing mythical creatures gone rouge; he’s still baffled by Freyja’s attraction to Johannes Faustuz Kasper, a descendant of doctors who have a dark secret of experimentation for the sake of knowledge and sharing it with people of power (medieval times they were involved with alchemy; in the 18th century, dissecting of bodies of criminals; in WWII, they provided knowledge of the occult and kept records of experiments). Because of this background, Erik Ström often calls the Herr Doktor a “Quack” and not worthy of his daughter’s love. But he owes Faustuz a lot - he saved Freyja from being married off to his business partner Sigmund, who was actually a mythical creature called Bluebeard disguised as a human (Erik was under the spell of the creature). It’s a possible comic idea, but it’d be a tough one to get done (I’m already having a hard time getting this one wrapped up). — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #frauv8

Kappas love cucumbers, but as a little boy, Johannes Faustuz was only able to get jars of pickles to feed the one living in his uncle’s garden. Pickles are still cucumbers, just... well, pickled; the Kappa is more than happy to eat them regardless whether they are fresh or preserved. - It’s also another shot in making a #drawthisinyourstylechallenge. My challenges don’t get any attention, so I don’t expect much tbh...🤷🏻‍♀️ I included the #lineart if anyone wants to do a #colorthisinyourstyle instead (use #ctiys_frauv8 if you do color). Johannes Faustuz confronts his aunt Yoko about his uncle’s garden. - Uncle Heinrich made the garden with a pond for his father-in-law to enjoy while he visited Kiel from Hiroshima; over the years, three things were brought over from Japan: a Kappa egg, a Garappa egg, and an infant Hyōsube attached to an eggplant. Yoko’s father had hopes that either Hansel or Hannah would befriend the Yōkai and become a doctor as a reward for doing so. Neither grandchild wanted to do anything about the Yōkai, thinking they only existed in Japan and not wanting to be doctors (Hansel ended up being a nurse while Hannah became a chef). - Overhearing and being fascinated with stories of the Yōkai, a little 3-year-old Johannes Faustuz often visited the garden pond with a jar of pickles in hand, tossing them into the water; he’d get excited seeing each of the floating pickles suddenly sink below the surface. But one day, the boy fell into the pond trying to lean in closer to see the pickles disappear. Unable to swim yet, Johannes Faustuz cries out for help. A green shelled creature pops up to help the boy swim to shore; the boy offers what’s left of the pickle jar to the creature before it dives deep into the water; Yoko’s father arrives to scold him for seeking the Yōkai and leaning towards the water carelessly. Ever since, Johannes Faustuz would occasionally leave behind a jar of pickles nearby the pond. The creature was obviously the Kappa, and because he was offered pickles over the years, he tells the other Yōkai to not cause him any trouble. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacters #yokai #kappa #hyosobe

Knowing his aunt, she must’ve had pissed off many kinds of creatures.👹 - Normally Mokumokuren are weak Yōkai, but in large masses they’re indicative of something more powerful - thus why Johannes Faustuz sees them in red. His odd right eye also changes from green to yellow to show something dangerous is lurking in the Kasper Family’s house. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #eyes #yokai #mokumokuren #red #yellow #black

Well... it’s another #dtiyschallenge pic. I had a story slide up a few days ago with 6 options for me to draw, and this was the only one picked out.😅 (I really do like to pay attention to what my followers have to say; my last pic’s comment mentioned they liked the yellow background for Cedrick and Faustuz, so my next OC pic most likely will be done in yellow) - This one is by @soniastegemann to celebrate 40K. #soniadtiys40k - I’ll have the story slide up in the third page for you to decide which #dtiys pic to draw next time (I just did 5️⃣). Soon I’m not able to draw as much with work starting to get busy for the summer meet, so I’m trying to cram in as much pics in the next few days. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #pink #femalecharacter #girl #soniastegemann

Which background color you like best on Cedrick and his father Johannes Faustuz? ❤️💙💛 Comment below!🤗 - I ended up with red, though I really like blue just as much since it really contrasts with the Kaspers’ blond hair; red just draws you in like a hummingbird. Yellow is nice being monochromatic, but it’s a bit too plain and their eyes stand out too much - I’d have to desaturate them into more of a grey-green color. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #ipadart #ipaddrawing #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #fatherson #blond #glasses #animestyle #mangastyle #red #blue #yellow #black #white #halftone

Something summery and 90s-inspired with Cedrick, Tricia, and Carmen. - Tyrone likes to shoo Cedrick away with his niece Tricia every time she shows up wanting extra allowance money for boba drinks and mall shopping. Tricia and Carmen don’t like Cedrick hanging around not only because he’s a boy, but he’s very awkward and can be a bit of an annoying walking encyclopedia spouting facts in relation to whatever they’re doing. The only reason why they keep him around is that he has a lot of allowance money - so mean.😑 — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #femalecharacters #teenagers #boy #girls #pink

Hearts and turnips everywhere! - Freyja is finally convinced that it’s not a Skvader in her garden because Mama Wolpertinger is huge (Skvaders to her are supposed to be like small rodents); Baby Wolpertinger also seems to really like Freyja a lot too. Mama Wolpertinger is extremely happy that she and her baby will have enough food for their summer hibernation; for next season, the Kaspers will make sure they have turnips growing in their garden. As for the fairy... Well, there’s one more thing waiting for her. Apparently she’s been punished for being such a bad little sprite. - This was actually fun to draw since it’s all the characters in this story in one pic. The fairy was definitely a fun character to bring back, and she’s most likely to come back again in something else in the future. Next story in mind might actually take place in the fantasy world or go back in time when Freyja and Johannes Faustuz were younger. We’ll see.🤷🏻‍♀️ — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #digitalsketch #illustration #ipadart #ipaddrawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #autodesksketchbook #fathermotherson #wolpertinger #fairy #turnips #animestyle #mangastyle #mythologicalcreatures

The fairy explains all - she let the wolpertingers in Freyja’s garden, lying to them that there’s turnips for them to eat. Now they need to figure out where to get turnips, and rescue the Herr Doktor before he gets stomped out of existence - unless he’s figured out something to divert Mama Wolpertinger’s wrath for a while. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #ipadart #ipaddrawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #femalecharacter #autodesksketchbook #fairy #motherson #animestyle #mangastyle #comic

Different art stages of this pic of Cedrick and Klimt. - It wouldn’t be Cedrick if he doesn’t have something that’s mismatched - this case his socks are opposite colors. His oversized sweatshirt also has the symbol of the black skull, the Kasper family’s emblem in the fantasy concept. - The color scheme has an earthy vibe, so nothing too vibrant aside from the expression notations and text. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #ipadart #ipaddrawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #lineart #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #originalcharacterdrawing #malecharacter #teenageboy #cat #pottedplants #animestyle

I did some coloring and adjusting to the original line art (last slide shows original expressions). Pretty amazing what slight redrawing of mouths can do.😬 - All three Kaspers together looking over the miniature apples Freyja bred herself; she calls them “Idun’s Golden Apples.” It’s not known whether these apples really preserve one’s youth or keeps doctors away. (Cedrick and Johannes Faustuz are both doctors; would that mean apples to them are like garlic to vampires?🤣) - Anyway, some sleep and after one more day of work, I’ll try to get the next page done. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #ipadart #ipaddrawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #lineart #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #originalcharacterdrawing #malecharacters #femalecharacter #autodesksketchbook #family #fathermotherson #pottedplant #animestyle #frauv8_ocs
