Sigrid performing an illumination spell for all to see at the debutante.
Every 3 months the Enchantress Academy holds a debutante ball for the students to showcase their spell casting skills to their family members and invited guests.
Sigrid usually has the most difficult time attracting viewers because she’s often immediately seen as weak and disregarded as the school’s only Wicca unable to cast spells without the use of Activation Potions.
To make up for appearances, Sigrid sews her own gowns, studies complex spells, and tries making concentrated Activation Potions to allow her to maximize her “Magical Potential” (her boyfriend Richard eventually made potion pills easy to swallow and instantly tap into her stored stamina).

The 1980s really had nice formal wear that’s very iconic and makes a strong statement.

As for the song, it’s actually from the 1970s - a little something from Richard’s era since he’s stuck there (Sigrid’s trying her best to get him with the times in regards to his wardrobe and cultural references).
The 1970s had a lot of great music (Disco, Ballards, Rock), and is a decade I find interesting almost in par with the 1980s in regards to media and events (not so much fashion - the 1970s inspired a lot of 1990s fashion, and both decades in regards to clothing kinda sucked in my opinion).

Sigrid was still bitter about being rejected by Batty on Valentine’s Day 2 months prior; she’s also slowly getting more used to Richard’s presence as her assigned Reaper observing the status of her soul (as well being occasional Handyman and Tatzelwurm exterminator at her mother’s flower shop).
She was aware her mother wanted her to pair up with Richard, and knows he really liked her but kept his emotions to a minimum by giving her glances, compliments, and surprise gifts (only after spending the night together when he was lovesick they started becoming more affectionate with each other).
Sigrid admits she finds Richard attractive and that he looks like a popular actor at the time, but didn’t like the fact that he’s a descendant of a family known for killing Witches in the distant past (as well as other historical atrocities such as bodysnatching and experimentation on humans), has a “Bad Boy” reputation as a Playboy, is so much older that he could pass by as a distant cousin or her guardian, and wears clothes from the past decade (he does slowly upgrade his wardrobe when they start dating).
Over the months leading up to the official start of their romance, Sigrid grew to love his “goofy smile and feathered hair”, his terrible Danish with a German accent (he also speak perfect English with an American accent, another turn on for Sigrid), his scent (combination of sweat, formaldehyde, and CK Obsession cologne), and how his odd-colored eyes would gently blink as he placed his coat over her shoulders for warmth.
She was also surprised how much he enjoys playing arcade games, watches American movies and TV, listens to (and sings) popular songs, and is really good with computers and other new tech in the 1980s - proving that he’s been a good match for her all along.

On weekends Richard and Sigrid would often go out to the beach during the day and Tivoli Gardens or the movie theater very late at night to avoid being caught dating (the biggest reason being that Sigrid’s academy prohibits dating before graduation, the other reason is Richard’s age and not so favorable reputation within the occult community as a member of the Kasper Family).
They do eventually get caught kissing at the arcade by Sigrid’s classmates after almost a year dating, leading to Sigrid’s expulsion, quick engagement to Richard, and moving away to Kiel to avoid further harassment.
Even in present times the occult community in Copenhagen still whisper about their taboo relationship and Sigrid’s sudden expulsion from the academy despite being its most powerful Witch - which is the biggest source of their son Johannes’ discomfort whenever he visits his grandmother’s flower shop (he doesn’t like the fact his father was so much older than his mother and was ultimately the cause of her downfall, but he’s grateful that Richard really loved Sigrid and as Death still holds her soul close by in the Underworld).

Every three months the academy has a debutante ball for the students to display their learned skills in front of their family, faculty, and other members of occult society who are invited (often foreign students and potential suitors).
Despite being Denmark’s strongest warlock’s daughter and the academy headmistress’ stepdaughter, Sigrid usually is ignored and looked as inferior being the only Wicca amongst Enchantresses (having a life curse also makes fellow occult members dismiss her since she’s not expected to live past 20).
But being able to cast advanced illumination and illusion spells with the use of activation potions, no one can deny the fact she’s the most powerful Witch at the academy; this often leads to classmates shattering her bottles of activation potions to prevent her from showing her skills and defending herself from magic attacks.
Since meeting Richard, Sigrid’s abilities only grew more consistent and powerful due to being able to practice with the use of the capsules of concentrated activation potion he developed in place of potion bottles; their relationship also grew more intimate, adding to Sigrid’s ability to focus her energy outward for everyone to see (her usual introverted behavior kept her spells less of a visual display despite their complexity).
Being one of occult society’s notorious members and available bachelors has many shocked seeing Richard at every trimonthly debutant at the academy since Sigrid’s 15th birthday; they also see how much this Grim Reaper is doting over his assigned victim, wondering if there’s more to his constant presence besides watching and waiting for the precise moment he takes her soul (dating was also prohibited at the academy until a student graduates at age 21).

The Grim Reaper’s wife…

Freyja’s just as capable as her husband Johannes in fighting monsters if left on her own.
As the daughter of an occult weapons maker descended from Viking royalty and a Pesta (a rare female Grim Reaper from Norway), she’s skilled with any weapon light enough to handle with one hand (she prefers axes, hammers, and blades).
Despite her mother being a Reaper, Freyja didn’t inherit the ability to see souls (Grim Reapers are also most commonly male in modern Western Europe; Viking times had many more female Reapers until the spread of Christianity lead to their near extinction due to being accused as Witches).

I was going for a little bit of a retro anime VHS look, but it’s not quite there…
The effects of the filters also made Richard’s platinum blond hair all white and Sigrid’s hair more orange (she has light brown/dirty blonde hair)…

Normally Sigrid sees Richard as an older dorky guy (his usual attire is t-shirts, jeans, and gym shoes and being disheveled from doing chores around her mother’s flower shop), but seeing him all cleaned up and dressed in a suit for work at the university makes her blush and easily compare him to popular heartthrobs of the 1970s and 1980s (Sigrid also has a weakness for men in suits and uniforms; her childhood crush Batty was a police academy student).

Sketch dump featuring Johannes and his father Richard (Death in his human form).
• Richard took care of Johannes for about the first 4 years of his life (Sigrid died a day after giving birth).
As the toll of transformation between his true form and his human body was starting to show, Richard left his toddler son with his brother Heinrich’s family and returned to the Underworld (Sigrid’s mother Aina still held a grudge towards him after she witnessed his transformation into Death and removing Sigrid’s soul).
Though Johannes doesn’t remember much of his early childhood, Richard took him almost everywhere he went (he does have a favorite memory: hearing Richard singing him to sleep; Johannes sings karaoke to emulate his father’s voice).
• It’s not known if Johannes is a Deity like Death, but he (as well as his son Cedrick) show physical signs as a direct descendant - his bones appear as tattoos when he performs his role as Grim Reaper (they still paint their faces / wear masks as part of traditional Reaper attire).
It makes sense he’s ranked the world’s top Grim Reaper as the result of a match setup by Fate Herself (she thought Death could use a few helpers with the exponential boom of human souls over millennia).
• Death normally is in his skeletal form, but whenever there’s a case of a God-class monster spawning or going rogue, he’s often summoned back temporarily as a human again to assist Reapers; he can only be summoned by direct relatives, and most of the time he returns as the age Richard would have been if he was “still alive” (he has returned at the age he “died” a few times, making it awkward for Johannes because they’ll physically be around the same age).
Johannes doesn’t like having him around mainly because he’s reminded of how Richard left him behind as a boy (as well as the inappropriate nature of his parents’ relationship despite being in an era when it’s tolerated - his mother was only a teenager while his father was more than twice her age).

I can say with confidence that my OCs have been consistent, more or less, in the last several years - especially these two.

Quite a bit of people in California think 60F is cold (I know someone who actually thinks 72F is too cold!), but me - I LOVE IT!
I’m pretty spoiled with the warm weather most of the year (except Summer - I HATE IT), but it’s nice having cooler weather every now and then.
My ideal daytime temp is about 55-60F so I can wear a light sweater or jacket over my usual T-shirt and leggings and be comfortable for the most part (if it’s colder than 50F, especially at night, then I get uncomfortable and crabby if I’m not wearing enough layers).
In a couple weeks I’ll be in Germany, and I’m really hoping for some snow to contrast the sandy beach I’ve been seeing every time I’m working at Del Mar (not saying I hate the beach - it’s just been there right in front of me a lot).

She’s of creole and Caribbean ancestry (Haitian and Puerto Rican), loves cooking vegan versions of soul food, is a doting mother to Queenie, aspires to be a jewelry designer, and is a big fan of Freyja’s TV show “FLASH FASHION”.
While she loves her husband very much, Asia can get upset and jealous whenever he spends time out late at the bar after work with his coworker Hr. Dr. Kasper (or as she calls him “Jojo” instead of “Hans”); because of this, her encounters with Johannes are often strained and heated though they have moments of understanding and cooperation (i.e. he enjoys her vegan meals and tells her everything about Tyrone’s days at work).
