Another simple color scheme pic with these two guys.🤦🏻‍♀️ I really need to find more challenging color schemes, lol. This one is basically hues of green, red, yellow with black line art and white accents for the eyes and lab coat. I kept the coloring flat since the line art is dark and quite bold. The line art style is a bit reminiscent of my inking with Sharpies back in 2006-07. Johannes Faustuz often locks himself inside a room for long periods of time to avoid human contact until festivities are diminished since he hates the holidays so much (I don’t blame him - my birthday is Christmas Eve and you can’t compete against Jesus and commercialism). When he’s away from everyone else, that’s when Krampus likes to drop by for a visit and eats a snack. One in disguise and in need of medical attention would be very afraid to see a Kasper ready to perform surgery on them because it might be their last chance to be alive - but only if the creature was known to cause any serious trouble amongst humans. — Aside from being doctors, our current Kaspers are known to be researchers and killers of rouge creatures. Most creatures fear them, regular people see them as eccentric, while fellow families involved in the same business of the mythical and occult view them as scum and low-class due to their ancestors’ involvement with dark moments of history (ie. Black Plague, witch-hunting, bodysnatching, WW2). - It’s not really my best work, and I couldn’t choose between no glasses or wearing glasses. So far, this is my favorite color scheme I’ve done. I love bright neon chartreuse, and I figured darker colors would balance it out - therefore the Williamses are the right set of characters for this study. And they are also some of the most fun characters to draw. - ‼️SENSITIVE TOPIC BELOW‼️ - I’m still working on drawing diverse characters since it’s something that haunts me from my fledgling artist days. I had been accused of drawing only white people, and well...I’m going to be blunt about my background: I’m half White (other half Asian), grew up surrounded by mostly White people, and childhood dolls... yeah, classic blonde Barbie dolls except for the redhead Midge and Hispanic Teresa dolls. So culturally, I’m very White American despite being mixed (only Asian things I was exposed to growing up were family, church, food, Asian markets, Sanrio, and Anime; I also wasn’t accepted by many other Asian girls I’ve met in school because I was told I was too White). So being around other kinds of people wasn’t much of a thing until I was in High School, College, and work. - There’s also some challenges about drawing ethnic characters. Darker skin tones are tricky without getting so muddied and dark you can’t see details/line art (you can see it a little actually in this pic). Also, I’m deathly afraid of drawing/coloring in a character and s/he looking like a caricature of the ethnicity I’m trying to depict. Not doing a good job drawing them in a respectful way will get unwanted attention (again, the Kaspers are safest to draw because what I’m most familiar with visually, and sadly we live in a world where “White” still considered the “cultural standard”). - I’m so sorry for rambling on about this sensitive topic, but it’s something I try to improve on as an artist. It’s official - my husband and I are going to Japan next month! We’re off to Shinjuku/Tokyo to check out whatever we can cram in a week, lol. To get hyped, I was suggested to draw something “Japanesey”, and this is the result: Aunt Yoko, her son Hansel (Hanzo), daughter Hannah (Hana), and nephew Johannes Faustuz (Fausto) in traditional Japanese garb. — Hansel and Hannah are “halfu” while Faustuz is “gaijin” (specifically “doisujin”), but all three Kasper siblings definitely look alike in many ways. Being the youngest and odd one out (especially after Uncle Heinrich’s death), Faustuz tried many things to make his aunt less spiteful of him - learning to write/speak Japanese, making origami flowers as gifts, keeping his grades up in school so he’ll become a doctor, and going so far as dumping black ink on his head to make his hair dark like the rest of the family. Whenever Cedrick takes his mother’s dog for a walk, he always gets tangled up in some kind of trouble - this time literally with Frl. Flicka’s leash. - Freyja adopted Frl. Flicka, being told that she was a former war dog who had trouble finding a forever-home due to her PTSD. She’s a sweet dog, thinking she’s a lapdog despite her size and loves giving kisses to her fellow pets/creatures. But she does get triggered when hearing loud noises, making her aggressive until she is presented some kind a treat to calm her down. She’s affectionate to Freyja, very obedient to Johannes Faustuz, and extremely rough with Cedrick. Frl. Dr. Kaspers are lactose intolerant, but each one likes their coffee differently: Johannes Faustuz like his coffee black with a maximum of two spoonfuls of sugar - no more, no less. Cedrick likes his coffee sweet with milk alternatives such as soy, oat, and almond milk. Cedrick with his older second-cousins Elizabeth Keiko and Evangeline. - Evangeline “Eva” Kasper-Schmitt is Hansel’s oldest daughter, ten years older than Cedrick at age 25; she’s from Hansel’s second marriage to Martha Schmitt, a woman he dumped his first wife Greta Strauss for while in medical school. Eva is a very quiet young woman who has a passion for history and art; she’s very superstitious and religious, often distancing herself from the Kasper Family. Leisa is seven years older than Cedrick at age 22. Papa Ström returns!🧔🏼 - Papa Ström and Cedrick have arrived at Kiel to transport the Yōkai back to California, only to find out Aunt Yoko suddenly wants to keep them. Johannes Faustuz is having a meltdown seeing these two with dueling emotions - fear of his father-in-law, and disappointment towards his son. I should draw the poor guy’s expression for the next page, lol. But again, it’s up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or not; it’s also been about three days since Garappa laid her egg, so it should be hatching pretty soon. - Erik Ström is one of my favorite OCs: he’s a bad-ass Grandpa with a tough exterior, but melts like butter when it comes to family- especially for his daughter Freyja and grandson Cedrick. Papa Ström is from a long proud line of Viking warriors and weapon makers, making him an expert on what to use in killing mythical creatures gone rouge; he’s still baffled by Freyja’s attraction to Johannes Faustuz Kasper, a descendant of doctors who have a dark secret of experimentation for the sake of knowledge and sharing it with people of power (medieval times they were involved with alchemy; in the 18th century, dissecting of bodies of criminals; in WWII, they provided knowledge of the occult and kept records of experiments). Because of this background, Erik Ström often calls the Herr Doktor a “Quack” and not worthy of his daughter’s love. But he owes Faustuz a lot - he saved Freyja from being married off to his business partner Sigmund, who was actually a mythical creature called Bluebeard disguised as a human (Erik was under the spell of the creature).
