A cat is a Wicca’s best friend, not so much for a Grim Reaper…

Seeking privacy away from prying eyes, Sigrid and Richard occasionally rendezvoused in the seclusion of the greenhouse. Despite the verdant concealment it provided, one individual they couldn’t evade amid the lush foliage was Sigrid’s mother, Aina. Ever hopeful and enthusiastic, Aina consistently attempted to catch the couple in intimate moments, nurturing dreams of them eventually marrying and starting a family.

It’s been a long while…
Life’s been keeping me busy, so much I’ve been away from making stuff for a month…
With Winter arriving soon, I did a bit of a redraw of a pic done almost exactly 4 years ago (2019). ❄️
This version has Cedrick “speaking” in both English and his native German via subtitles (both versions happen to work with the same lip sync animation).
I would love to see some snow again like I did in my trip to Germany last year, but right now it’s cold enough for hot drinks (I’m a bit pissed they don’t serve pumpkin spice drinks anymore when it’s still fricking November).

… and that’s why Tricia hardly has any tutoring sessions over at the Kaspers’ place - they have 2 dogs (Fräulein Flicka and Freud), a cat (Klimt), a Wolpertinger (Fritz), a Hyosube (Junko), and a Sleipnir colt (Søren) [they also have Rose-Marie the Pink Fairy, but she doesn’t have hair or fur like the other creatures].
Tricia’s interactions with creatures are limited by her allergies and lack of affinity for animals. Her biology professor, Vinnie DeValeur, shares a similar irony as an animal-allergic individual owning a snake, tortoise, and tarantula for his students. Birds, however, are an exception, and she tolerates the Chickharney residing in the pine sapling planted by Hr. Dr. Kasper in her uncle Tyrone’s backyard.
Tricia and Cedrick have known each other for more than 5 years, but they’re not a couple as many strangers tease they are - their relationship is more like estranged siblings or “a little more than acquaintances but not quite friends yet”. Tricia first met Cedrick when he was 9 years old and unable to speak much English (when the Kaspers first bought their home in Los Angeles for work), so she still sees him as “an annoying spoiled little brat” despite his sudden growth spurt in recent years; Cedrick doesn’t think much of Tricia since she’s over 5 years older and is a relative of a colleague, but he does find her difficult to be around with since she’s known for being stubborn and unwilling to stay focused on anything academic (Tricia got a scholarship to University because she’s a good Volleyball player, but has to maintain her grades - thus why she has tutoring sessions with Cedrick).

Barbie is EVERYWHERE! Even the Kaspers are swept up by the pink tsunami - Johannes and Freyja love it, but their son Cedrick is done with the color.
🎟️👛
I still remember first hearing the original Barbie song by Aqua song as a kid on the radio - it was constantly on repeat, and I LOVED IT! My mom still thinks it’s a little kid song, but now as an adult… I can see why Mattel wasn’t happy. 😆 Barbie was based off a German doll who actually has an interesting backstory herself (Bild Lilli was based off her newspaper comic counterpart who had quite the sassy personality based on the articles I’ve read).

Johannes, a Surgical Oncologist, doubles as a Substitute Biology Professor, much to Tricia’s dismay. She’s acquainted with him through her uncle Tyrone, but having him as a teacher is an added annoyance, especially considering her poor grades. Unbeknownst to her, Tricia’s latent magical abilities attract supernatural beings, particularly vengeful souls on the verge of transformation. As a Grim Reaper, Johannes must intercept these souls to prevent them from becoming powerful creatures.
[as for the song, it’s been playing on repeat at home]

Johannes and his father Richard who’s supposed to be “dead” in his role as Death Himself.
💀
Four years after Sigrid’s death, Richard’s body began rapidly losing its ability to retain its mortal human form, a sign from Fate Herself that he was needed back in the Underworld indefinitely. Richard knew that he had to contact his older brother Heinrich to pick up his son Johannes while he still could. He gave his son one last pat and kiss on the head as a human, not knowing when he would ever be able to do so again.
Johannes was confused and scared when he woke up with his uncle and his family, wondering where his father had gone. For years, Johannes had believed that his father had died from a lung infection due to disease, but as he got older, he started to suspect that there was more to the story. When Heinrich died, Johannes briefly saw his father again as Death, and he finally learned the truth about Richard’s identity.
Johannes was bitter about how his father had left him and was not proud of the infamous legacy that Richard had left behind. Richard was Europe’s most powerful Reaper, but he was also known for being a Playboy and for marrying Sigrid, a Wicca girl who was less than half his age. Death still occasionally returned to his human form when summoned by a direct descendant of the Kasper Family or when he was sent by Fate to assist Reapers in fighting God-Class Monsters.
Whenever he was in human form as Richard, Death tried his best to make amends with his son. However, Johannes still struggled to come to terms with the fact that his father was Death and that he had left him behind.

I just keep going down the 1980s rabbit hole when it comes to drawing OCs and clothing…😑
The 1980s really had nice formal wear that’s very iconic and makes a strong statement.
-
As for the song, it’s actually from the 1970s - a little something from Richard’s era since he’s stuck there (Sigrid’s trying her best to get him with the times in regards to his wardrobe and cultural references).
The 1970s had a lot of great music (Disco, Ballards, Rock), and is a decade I find interesting almost in par with the 1980s in regards to media and events (not so much fashion - the 1970s inspired a lot of 1990s fashion, and both decades in regards to clothing kinda sucked in my opinion).

I made 2 versions - one edited with the app PREQUEL, the other straight from the app SKETCHBOOK (I’m one of them rare artists who use it over PROCREATE despite having both apps on my iPad).

Richard & Sigrid’s son Johannes (Hr. Dr. Kasper) - Biology Professor Mode.
[Reel Version]
Normally his day job is a Surgical Oncologist, but whenever his colleague Prof. Vincent-Claude “Vinnie” DeValeur needs a substitute, he’ll step in as a Biology Professor.
[Otherwise, he’s a Grim Reaper working for his father Death Himself]

When I was in Berlin, I really had to restrain myself from taking home so many pamphlets because the typography was so beautiful (makes sense - the Gutenberg Press was invented in Germany, not to mention the language looks so clean and pretty printed out on paper; Japanese is also another language I find very beautiful on print).
Seeing all the print kinda triggered the making of this - and it’s been a really long time since I’ve made one of these mock fashion magazine covers featuring my OCs (October 2021 was the last time I made one 😬).
And I apologize for any grammar errors - I’ve only studied German for a year and a half!
(Es tut mir leid!😭)

This home has been the place where Hr. Dr. Kasper’s parents first met and where he spent his Summer vacations every year since he started school.
My TikTok version just happens to have the perfect song for it (it’s only missing a cat; Odin was supposed to be in Aina’s bike basket - but we can pretend he’s hiding somewhere in the flowers, lol).
