This time it’s Mama Kasper and her father.

Papa Ström wears a Santa suit sweater obviously because he’s got a beard and white hair. Freyja even joked her father is a “bad-ass Santa Claus” (her husband and son would disagree). Papa Ström isn’t known for kindness, but is often generous in showering his family with gifts - especially for his daughter and grandson.

Freyja wears a green sweater like her husband with a big yellow bow and tag that says “DO NOT OPEN UNTIL X-MAS”. No commentary is required to explain why she’s wearing her sweater.😗

So far, this is my favorite color scheme I’ve done. I love bright neon chartreuse, and I figured darker colors would balance it out - therefore the Williamses are the right set of characters for this study. And they are also some of the most fun characters to draw.

I’m still working on drawing diverse characters since it’s something that haunts me from my fledgling artist days. I had been accused of drawing only white people, and well...I’m going to be blunt about my background: I’m half White (other half Asian), grew up surrounded by mostly White people, and childhood dolls... yeah, classic blonde Barbie dolls except for the redhead Midge and Hispanic Teresa dolls. So culturally, I’m very White American despite being mixed (only Asian things I was exposed to growing up were family, church, food, Asian markets, Sanrio, and Anime; I also wasn’t accepted by many other Asian girls I’ve met in school because I was told I was too White).
So being around other kinds of people wasn’t much of a thing until I was in High School, College, and work.

There’s also some challenges about drawing ethnic characters. Darker skin tones are tricky without getting so muddied and dark you can’t see details/line art (you can see it a little actually in this pic). Also, I’m deathly afraid of drawing/coloring in a character and s/he looking like a caricature of the ethnicity I’m trying to depict. Not doing a good job drawing them in a respectful way will get unwanted attention (again, the Kaspers are safest to draw because what I’m most familiar with visually, and sadly we live in a world where “White” still considered the “cultural standard”).

I’m so sorry for rambling on about this sensitive topic, but it’s something I try to improve on as an artist. We live in a world with all kinds of people out there, and they all deserve to be drawn.

(There’s been so much tweed, knits, houndstooth, glen plaid, and yellow everywhere!😧)
He’s also got a different haircut (well, actually a more trimmer and styled version of the bowl-cut he had for the past year), and he’s really looking like his father with that hairline.

Queenie is one troublemaker, always sneaking off to places she shouldn’t be in, doing things that’s not allowed, and asking questions about subjects that are not always the easiest to answer and explain to a 5-year-old. This often annoys her father Tyrone since he’s so busy working at the hospital, unable to keep an eye on her whenever she’s visiting; because of this, Queenie constantly sneaks into the Kaspers’ office and rummages through their stuff - mostly without permission.
Johannes Faustuz is actually quite patient in dealing with Queenie since he’s a father of a Wunderkind, but at times he’s at his wits’ end whenever she does something so outrageous - like dumping the jarred Meerjungfrau into the aquarium, or this time opening his aunt’s package and pulling a private family photo out of it. And wanting to show it off to her Kindergarten classmates.
But all that aside, Queenie enjoys being around the Herr Doktor and thinks of him as an uncle.

This idea has been in the scraps pile for obvious reasons, but with recent media being out there depicting this particular subject, I guess it’s a tad bit safer to bring it up? It’s going back to archives after awhile with an updated post with more details about these three Kaspers.
It’s been hinted for a long time regarding Johannes Faustuz’s ancestors being involved with World War II.
It’s time to show them: Randolf, Olaf, and Adolf - the Kaspers during the Second World War.
Faustuz is very skittish about revealing his family’s history to others, afraid people will immediately treat him and his son Cedrick differently based off the fact his ancestors were not very good people.

The Kasper Family are snubbed by other families involved in the occult and mythological business due to their villainous behavior and historical circumstances (you can say the Kaspers are like Slytherin House in Harry Potter). It’s this very fact why Erik Ström didn’t want his only child Freyja falling in love and marrying Faustuz in the first place, even though he’s nothing like his predecessors (well, he’s just as hardheaded, intelligent, crafty, and occasionally creepy without being evil).
Kaspers throughout the ages were known to be merchants, advisors, politicians, mercenaries, whatever profession that can be used to obtain resources in questionable ways.
Since after the war with only Olaf surviving, each generation has tried their best to make up for the sins of their ancestors by using their skills and knowledge for good.

The correct answer to my pop quiz was “Norwegian Forest Cat”.
The Kaspers’ cat is a Weegie (also spelled Wegie, which is the nickname for this breed of cat), and boy is he trouble always catching and often killing small creatures only to bring them to his masters as offerings of love.
Klimt also likes climbing up trees, but often gets stuck high up - thus Cedrick or Johannes Faustuz has to rescue him by climbing up and risking limbs.

Weegies are the most popular cat breed of Scandinavia for obvious reasons: they’re from Norway, they are tied to Norse mythology as the drivers of the goddess Freyja’s chariot, and were companions of Vikings.
Being descendants of Viking royalty and warriors, the Ström family always owned this breed of cat throughout the ages due to their loyalty and affection.

Originally Cedrick was supposed to have his hair slicked back like his grandfather Erik Ström, but after adding on a beanie, he looks way better and proportionate with his bowlcut down (2nd slide has original idea).
I must say that I really like his Autumn outfit here - it’s cute and looks comfy!

Poor Cedrick just wanted a Ruben sandwich and a juice box, but unbeknownst to him, his mother Freyja had stashed a fresh Kraken in the fridge for tomorrow night’s dinner.
Included in this pic are the Hyōsube they adopted from their last trip to Kiel, their orange Norwegian Forest Cat Klimt, and the mischievous Pink Fairy - all featured in previous pics I’ve drawn over the past couple of months (if not years).

I thought about having the tentacles animated, but after spending so much time drawing and coloring this, I opted to just add text and lines for actions like a comic with a few touches from #pixaloop in the second slide.

It looks like an older Cedrick at first glance, but it’s actually a younger version of his grandfather Erik Ström (that glare is what gives it away - see last slide).
Also, Cedrick hates wearing formal wear - he sticks to wearing his medical scrubs or activewear 99% of the time (the other 1% are stuff like denim jeans and casual fashion).

The Kaspers are known for their “Death Glare,” but the Ströms have their own “Stern Glare” when they narrow their eyes and fixate them on their target (the “Death Glare” is when a Kasper has their eyes wide open with rage with either a frown or a crazed smile).

Circa 1992 when Johannes Faustuz meets his future wife Freyja, a foreign exchange student from Sweden.
At age 10, Freyja was a lot taller than Faustuz even though he’s older by six months; this will be the case until they’re 13 when he starts getting much taller than her.

They first formally meet in the library where his aunt Yoko works. Freyja was looking for old English literature books, but noticed several fairies flying around; she follows them to see a boy she recognizes from her class reading a large stack of books on mythical creatures, mythology, biology, and science fiction. Freyja confronts Faustuz about the fairies and books, learning that he’s a Kasper, a family like hers familiar with everything mysterious and mythical. Because of their shared history and interests, the two become very close over the years despite not being able to be together all the time.
