Kappa is a papa to a baby Kappa - it’s a boy! - Aunt Yoko wants to keep the Yōkai more than ever now that’s there’s a baby one. But it’s still up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or not. - In this case, these Yōkai became attached to where they’re born and humans depending on circumstances. Kappa and Garappa both hatched in Kiel and grew attached to Uncle Heinrich when he was alive. Kappa is also attached to Johannes Faustuz, but his mate Garappa wants to stay where they were born. And now with a baby that also hatched in Kiel, it’s more unlikely that they’ll leave. Hyōsube wasn’t born in Kiel - she was brought over from Hiroshima as a baby attached to an eggplant. She has no attachment to Kiel, and with Uncle Heinrich dead for almost thirty years, Hyōsube actually would like to live with Johannes Faustuz and his family. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #yokai #kappa #garappa #frauv8

Papa Ström returns!🧔🏼 - Papa Ström and Cedrick have arrived at Kiel to transport the Yōkai back to California, only to find out Aunt Yoko suddenly wants to keep them. Johannes Faustuz is having a meltdown seeing these two with dueling emotions - fear of his father-in-law, and disappointment towards his son. I should draw the poor guy’s expression for the next page, lol. But again, it’s up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or not; it’s also been about three days since Garappa laid her egg, so it should be hatching pretty soon. - Erik Ström is one of my favorite OCs: he’s a bad-ass Grandpa with a tough exterior, but melts like butter when it comes to family- especially for his daughter Freyja and grandson Cedrick. Papa Ström is from a long proud line of Viking warriors and weapon makers, making him an expert on what to use in killing mythical creatures gone rouge; he’s still baffled by Freyja’s attraction to Johannes Faustuz Kasper, a descendant of doctors who have a dark secret of experimentation for the sake of knowledge and sharing it with people of power (medieval times they were involved with alchemy; in the 18th century, dissecting of bodies of criminals; in WWII, they provided knowledge of the occult and kept records of experiments). Because of this background, Erik Ström often calls the Herr Doktor a “Quack” and not worthy of his daughter’s love. But he owes Faustuz a lot - he saved Freyja from being married off to his business partner Sigmund, who was actually a mythical creature called Bluebeard disguised as a human (Erik was under the spell of the creature). It’s a possible comic idea, but it’d be a tough one to get done (I’m already having a hard time getting this one wrapped up). — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #frauv8

Aunt Yoko decided to not get rid of the Yōkai after all, only after seeing how the Yōkai were staying together as a family despite everything she had done. It reminded her of when her husband Heinrich had died and all the hardships she endured trying to keep the family functional. But at the same time, it’s possible she decided to keep the Yōkai only to make things harder for her nephew since she doesn’t like him. It’s ultimately up to the Yōkai whether they want to stay or go with Johannes Faustuz. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #frauv8

Hannah is using her skills as a chef to prepare a nice meal for the Yōkai; unexpectedly her mother Yoko decides to help out. The Yōkai are so happy to have a new family member on the way; it won’t be known whether it’ll be a Kappa or Garappa until it hatches in three days. Afterwards, hopefully Johannes Faustuz can take them back to his current residence in California. - As for Hans and Hans, it’s emotional for them to see a family together when they’re separated from their own. Hansel has the worst luck of the three Kasper Cousins/Siblings in regards with relationships due to his work and wandering eyes; back in his younger years, he was the most popular boy in school with many girls chasing after him. He has two daughters: Evangeline (with his second wife Martha) and Elizabeth Keiko (with his third wife Heidi); his first wife Greta had left him due to his infidelity in less than two years of marriage. Eva is ten years older than Cedrick, while Leisa is seven years older. Like Cedrick, Leisa has odd-eyes, except one brown, the other blue. Neither daughter wants anything to do with the Kasper lineage, but they’ll be featured sometime in the future. - As for Hannah, she never had children for multitude of reasons. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #yokai #garappa #kappa #hyosube #frauv8

Johannes Faustuz was filling up a kiddie pool when Garappa started having labor pains. He’s calling out for his older cousin Hansel because he is a nurse; even though he’s a doctor, Faustuz needs some assistance in dealing with this situation. Egg laying for Garappas is extremely painful and risky considering how large the egg is compared to body size (think of a Kiwi bird). A Garappa will remain with her egg until it hatches; she will have to rely on her mate for food and comfort for the next few days. This is also a vulnerable time since she’ll be weak from egg laying and incubation, not be able to eat to regain her strength. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #yokai #garappa #kappa #hyosube #frauv8

The Garappa finally reveals herself to the Kasper Siblings - and she’s so adorable with her big eyes and round belly ready to pop. - The Kappa and Garappa are mates expecting their first egg. In their case, a male offspring will be a Kappa, while a female will be a Garappa. I’ll have another “Wunderkind’s Notes” regarding how Kappa/Garappa pairings work. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #yokai #garappa #blackandwhite

Freyja normally doesn’t like having creatures living in her garden, but after hearing what happened to the pond in Kiel, she can’t help but take in the Kappa and Hyōsube. It’s also revealed that a third Yōkai is also homeless - the Garappa. But she’s in hiding and expecting her egg any day now. Johannes Faustuz, Hansel, and Hannah will have to figure out a temporary fix until the Garappa lays her egg. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #yokai #kappa #hyosube

Uncle Heinrich’s pond is gone!😱 Aunt Yoko replaced it with concrete slabs for easy maintenance without any consideration for the Yōkai that lived there for almost fifty years. There’s a few options in mind to fix the problem, but it’s going to be a work of compromise. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacter #garden #pond

Johannes Faustuz confronts his aunt Yoko about his uncle’s garden. - Uncle Heinrich made the garden with a pond for his father-in-law to enjoy while he visited Kiel from Hiroshima; over the years, three things were brought over from Japan: a Kappa egg, a Garappa egg, and an infant Hyōsube attached to an eggplant. Yoko’s father had hopes that either Hansel or Hannah would befriend the Yōkai and become a doctor as a reward for doing so. Neither grandchild wanted to do anything about the Yōkai, thinking they only existed in Japan and not wanting to be doctors (Hansel ended up being a nurse while Hannah became a chef). - Overhearing and being fascinated with stories of the Yōkai, a little 3-year-old Johannes Faustuz often visited the garden pond with a jar of pickles in hand, tossing them into the water; he’d get excited seeing each of the floating pickles suddenly sink below the surface. But one day, the boy fell into the pond trying to lean in closer to see the pickles disappear. Unable to swim yet, Johannes Faustuz cries out for help. A green shelled creature pops up to help the boy swim to shore; the boy offers what’s left of the pickle jar to the creature before it dives deep into the water; Yoko’s father arrives to scold him for seeking the Yōkai and leaning towards the water carelessly. Ever since, Johannes Faustuz would occasionally leave behind a jar of pickles nearby the pond. The creature was obviously the Kappa, and because he was offered pickles over the years, he tells the other Yōkai to not cause him any trouble. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacters #femalecharacters #yokai #kappa #hyosobe

It’s always the cutest Yōkai that are the most dangerous and powerful. - Normally Kappas and Hyōsubes are mischievous little things, but without their garden and pond at the Kasper’s estate, they’re desperate for water to stay alive. And they’re being very polite to Johannes Faustuz for some reason that’ll be revealed later. - I’ll make another “Wunderkind’s Notes” to explain what Kappas, Hyōsubes, and Garappas are (they’re close relatives just like Hansel, Hannah, and Johannes Faustuz). — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #shower #yokai #kappa #hyosobe

“I always feel like somebody’s watching me~ And I have no privacy~” Cue the “Psycho” music🔪🚿 - Johannes Faustuz hasn’t been able to relax since coming back to the Kaspers’ home in Kiel. Not even the bathroom is safe. So what Yōkai would be drawn to the shower? - I used an app called Pixaloop to make the steam and running water. Let me know if you like me to make more pics with effects.🤗 — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #pixaloop #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #shower

Knowing his aunt, she must’ve had pissed off many kinds of creatures.👹 - Normally Mokumokuren are weak Yōkai, but in large masses they’re indicative of something more powerful - thus why Johannes Faustuz sees them in red. His odd right eye also changes from green to yellow to show something dangerous is lurking in the Kasper Family’s house. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #eyes #yokai #mokumokuren #red #yellow #black

Happy #nationalicecreamday! Here’s a scribble of Papa Kasper with Fräulein Flicka, followed by a drawing of Cedrick from last year. - Ice cream is one of my favorite things to eat, but it’s very bad for the waistline and tummy due to lactose intolerance. 🍨🍦🍧 - I’m still alive - just been super crazy busy with work and dealing with a car accident (my fault hitting a parked car; nobody was hurt). I’ll work on my current story regarding Tante Yoko’s Yōkai once I’m not so bogged down with life and get some needed rest (I’ve been working since July 12th, and the 21st is the last day of this work period; each day I’ve worked at least 8 hours, so I’m mentally exhausted). - This pic will eventually go to the archives, so save it if you like it. — #digitalsketch #digitaldrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #icecream #man #dog

A very grumpy Tante Yoko makes her appearance with few of the Yōkai suddenly appearing at the family’s home. - It’s no surprise where Johannes Faustuz, as well as Hannah, gets the strict, stoic, and serious attitude from. — #digitaldrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadprodrawing #lineart #halftone #blackandwhite #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacter #originalcharacterdrawing #femalecharacter #yokai #animestyle #mangastyle #comic

All three Kasper cousins are together again after a number of years. As for Aunt Yoko, she’s a no show. She doesn’t want part of this reunion despite needing help getting rid of Yōkai in the family house. - Yoko isn’t very attached to Johannes Faustuz after having to raise him alongside her own children, nor was she happy with the decision of the family’s patriarch choosing Faustuz to be the future head of the Kasper family despite being the youngest child. The main reason is that neither Hansel or Hannah inherited “Odin’s Eye,” which is expressed as having odd eyes; “Odin’s Eye” is a trait that allows the person to see a creature’s strengths and weaknesses in a glance, which is needed for the Kaspers’ family secret business of defeating monsters. — #digitalart #digitaldrawing #autodesksketchbook #drawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadart #halftone #mangastyle #animestyle #comic #originalcharacters #malecharacters #femalecharacter #originalcharacterart #cousins

The dreaded flight across the Atlantic with a kid kicking the back of his seat, a sick passenger in front, and airplane seating more cramped than ever before. It doesn’t help being very tall either (Johannes Faustuz is 195cm/approximately 6’4”-6’5”). - What’s the longest you’ve flown by plane? Longest flight I’ve been on was 18 hours straight across the Pacific to the Philippines - with turbulence since it’s flying against the jet stream.🤢 — #digitaldrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadprodrawing #halftone #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacter #originalcharacterdrawing #malecharacter #flying #airplanepassenger #animestyle #mangastyle #comic

Awww... Poor Cedrick hates being apart from his father; he also wants to go back home to Kiel where it’s not as hot as Los Angeles in the summer. (I’m the same way - I miss the cool coastal weather in Port Hueneme where I lived as a kid; anything above 85F/30C is stupid hot) After flying six hours to New York, then another eight hours to Frankfurt, Papa Kasper will be meeting up with his cousins Hansel and Hannah. — #digitaldrawing #ipaddrawing #ipadprodrawing #lineart #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacters #originalcharacterdrawing #malecharacters #femalecharacter #fathermotherson #animestyle #mangastyle #comic

Hannah (also spelled Hana) is one of the Herr Doktor’s two older cousins; she and her older brother Hansel call him “Fausto” since they don’t like that they’re all named similarly (all three were often nicknamed “Hans”, causing lots of confusion amongst schoolmates). Johannes Faustuz grew up frightened of Hannah for many reasons, from her being the mean older sister figure to feeling her wrath accidentally walking in on her and boyfriend as a little boy. Over the years the two have gotten along better, but Hannah still often pushes her younger cousin around despite his towering height. Hannah also keeps in touch on behalf of his aunt Yoko who feel less close and obliged to maintain a relationship with him since he’s not her biological child. But as the heir of the Kasper’s legacy, Aunt Yoko needs his help in dealing with Yōkai in their home in Kiel. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #drawing #ipaddrawing #ipadprodrawing #ipadart #ipadproart #autodesksketchbook #originalcharacter #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #man #blackandwhite #manga #comic #mangastyle #halftone

The fairy explains all - she let the wolpertingers in Freyja’s garden, lying to them that there’s turnips for them to eat. Now they need to figure out where to get turnips, and rescue the Herr Doktor before he gets stomped out of existence - unless he’s figured out something to divert Mama Wolpertinger’s wrath for a while. — #digitaldrawing #digitalart #ipadart #ipaddrawing #ipadproart #ipadprodrawing #originalcharacters #originalcharacterart #malecharacter #femalecharacter #autodesksketchbook #fairy #motherson #animestyle #mangastyle #comic

Meanwhile, Cedrick has finally caught up with the fairy. Now Mama Wolpertinger is mad - you don’t make her baby cry.
