•About Each Sketch:
Hedy the neighbor’s black cat had been killed once by Richard (he mistook her for a Tatzelwurm), but having multiple lives, she came back to life even more affectionate towards him much to his dismay.
Cats are also closely associated with Death and the occult; Hedy likes being around Richard even though he claims that he hates cats (he really loves cats, just doesn’t like showing it).
Oddly Hedy catches and brings back all the souls she finds to him, something cats never do for Grim Reapers (cats like chasing souls away for fun, making it more difficult for Grim Reapers to do their jobs); Richard isn’t an ordinary Grim Reaper.
-
Sigrid doesn’t wear her glasses often in fear of her classmates bullying her and breaking them; she sees well enough to walk around and ride her bike, but not clear enough to read things or fully recognize a person’s face.
*Kaspers wear glasses because their heterochromia; when their green eye isn’t in use, it looses normal vision and puts extra strain on their blue eye.
(this is also why they’re often tired, cranky, and suffering migraines if they can’t get hold of a good source of caffeine and snacks - the green eye takes up a lot of energy to use)
-
As a little girl, Sigrid was told that she wasn’t going to live past the age of 16 due to the curse her father placed on her - thus she would never fulfill her dream of getting married and being a mother just like her mother Aina.
To console herself as she grew up, Sigrid turned to collecting seeds and raised lots of plants for her mother Aina’s flower shop, referring to them as her children.
One of Sigrid’s final plants was a wisteria sapling, the seed planted the same day when she found out she was pregnant.

Another Richard and Sigrid #sketchdump.
—
Poor Richard had his clothes removed and taken away every time he’s done killing Tatzelwurms in the backyard - Aina got fed up cleaning the blood dripping onto her rugs and would rather wash his clothes instead.
Aina did her best to get Richard’s clothes done before Sigrid gets home from school, but occasionally Sigrid had no choice but to deal with a naked Grim Reaper/Monster Hunter locked up in her bathroom.
Sigrid was initially upset and embarrassed (especially if she actually needed to use toilet or shower), but over time - and especially when they were officially a couple - she would enjoy teasing him.
-
There’s also a glimpse of Richard suffering from Lovesickness (mainly caused by expressing nonstop affection and getting constant rejection over a long period of time), the first symptoms being high fever and extreme fatigue.

Johannes Faustuz can never get a break from soul collecting because there’s always something or someone dying nearby.
Like any task, there’s times it gets so busy he can’t keep up and needs help.
Faustuz is also wearing an updated version of his father’s outfit from the 1980s.
-
Grim Reapers and Monster Hunters are becoming more rare as less people are in tune with the spiritual, mythical, and occult world.
And not all souls get collected based on what they are (ie. plant and insect souls are mostly harmless, but animal and human souls - especially those who died suddenly and violently - are extremely dangerous and prone to transforming into monsters that harm the living).
Luckily most souls like to gather together and often like to float around the closest Grim Reaper wanting to move on.
But there are creatures that like to chase or devour them (cats can be a Grim Reapers biggest annoyance because they not only had multiple lives but also chase souls as if they’re yarn balls).

A closer look at Richard’s look, which was a mashup of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
(I really enjoy drawing clothes)
-
“If it doesn’t have holes and they still fit, there’s no need to get new clothes” was Richard’s philosophy - thus he had a hard time switching to the 1980s in regards to his fashion.
But Sigrid often rolled her eyes and groaned seeing him in clothes from a decade ago whenever he visited her; she’d save up men’s fashion articles and cut out each item to place on top of Richard from a distance, taking a photo as she did so to show him later that it’s time to give up his denim bell bottoms for straight leg jeans (he finally changed his pants after they started dating).

Other version of the arcade idea I had, this time from behind and my usual art style with added effects.
I feel like I should draw these two again turned around - normally I don’t draw characters from behind.
-
Ever since Sigrid was really little, she loved going to the arcade.
Over the years she’s managed to beat games with only a coin and giving away her prize tickets to little kids to avoid trouble with other regular players; she’s close with the arcade owner and his family, calling him “Uncle Didier”.
Richard also enjoys playing arcade games; he and Sigrid would occasionally play against each other to see who would get the highest score.
As their relationship progressed, Richard lets Sigrid win more often to avoid having an angry girlfriend at the end of the date; if she lost, he would have to treat her with several ice cream cones to cool her temper (also being lactose intolerant makes going to an ice cream parlor awkward being pressured into buying a scoop for himself).
Their son Johannes Faustuz inherited their love of video games, being a big fan of playing games such as ZELDA, POKÉMON, and FINAL FANTASY as a kid in the 90s; he still has his original GAMEBOY, but isn’t too happy with his son Cedrick constantly playing with it.

Delivery for Sigrid!
… except she’s not happy with who came with it.
Actually…
She’ll be eating him as well.💀
-
Sigrid wasn’t always the nicest to Richard when they first met, especially knowing his past as a playboy, being a Kasper/Grim Reaper, and his age (Sigrid calls him an “old man”, but he’s not old - just older like a brother or cousin).
But deep down inside, Sigrid had always liked him and wanted to have him for herself.

It just takes a lot of time to find the right poses and clothes.

It’s pic of Richard and Hedy from the “Scrap Pile/Backburner” that finally got worked on after collecting a bit of virtual dust (I don’t post everything I doodle).
As for the character, it’s pretty heavily hinted that Richard isn’t just any Grim Reaper based on how much he’s around Sigrid (who was cursed by her father, leaving her only about 15-16 years to live): he’s an incarnation of Death himself - basically a rare temporary physical form of Death that lasts about 30 years from the time he’s reborn as an infant to his normal state as a rotting corpse.
Death reappears about every 1,000 years, picking families known for being reapers to be born into; he currently has the Kasper Family as his favorite due to their dark history and unique ability to see any living being’s vitals with their heterochromia.

Page 11: But it’s cute...
-
The tree may be tiny to the humans, but to the mythical creatures, it’s a mesmerizing object in the backyard garden - especially for Rosemarie the Fairy and Junko Akane the Hyōsube (who happen to be both pink like Sakura blossoms).
-
Kimiko hoped it was a tree large enough to lay underneath and look up as the branches sway in the breeze.
But she can at least sit next to it for a selfie...

Page 8: Frl. Flicka discovers something delicious...
🍡
-
Fräulein Flicka is the Kaspers’ pet Doberman/Hellhound; she’s a former U. S. military dog who had serious behavioral issues until she was adopted.
Nowadays she thinks she’s a lapdog, often jumping on the couch and sleeping in bed with Freyja and Faustuz.
She can also be quite mischievous, often chasing Cedrick around like cattle, sneaking off with slices of Erik’s Smörgåstårta, or breathes out fire and poops out flaming turds when she’s turning into a Hellhound.
-
Kimiko is deathly afraid of dogs but loves cats (she might like Freud since he’s a dachshund).
She also likes cute little animal mascots such as Hello Kitty, so maybe if a mythical creature decides to show itself from hiding...

Wunderkind’s Notes:
Cherry Blossoms/Sakura 🌸
-
It’s that time of the year when these mainly pink, white, and red flowers are in full bloom worldwide - especially in Japan.
Hanami is also a great activity during the pandemic considering it’s outside, and if there’s enough trees for everyone, people can enjoy the view while social distancing.
-
The Kaspers have a weeping cherry blossom tree planted in their backyard, which is considered to be the oldest cultivated style of the cherry blossom tree in Japan.
All of the mythical creatures are drawn to it whenever it’s in bloom, especially the fairies and Junko the Hyōsube.

Page 3: “I do have a tree, but...”
-
Hr. Dr. Kasper usually doesn’t invite people over to his house for LOTS of reasons (his wife Freyja is a famous TV host, his father-in-law Erik Ström still stuck due to travel bans, there’s lots of little mythical creatures living there, his dogs go crazy with visitors, etc.).
But he’s feeling a little pity for Kimiko’s homesickness for Japan, and since he has a small cherry blossom tree in his backyard, he’s cautiously allowing her to visit.
Just hope the critters behave themselves, and hope Kimiko doesn’t get too nosy about his background...
Faustuz doesn’t like having to explain things like why there’s a colony of fairies living in the garden, or how his parents met and died.

Johannes Faustuz has lots of traditional clothing he wears as a Grim Reaper related to the cultures he’s closely associated with (German, Danish, Japanese, Swedish)
This outfit was most influenced by his Danish heritage, the red rose in his pocket grown from his grandmother Aina’s flower shop in Copenhagen.
