Wunderkind’s Notes:
Cherry Blossoms/Sakura 🌸
-
It’s that time of the year when these mainly pink, white, and red flowers are in full bloom worldwide - especially in Japan.
Hanami is also a great activity during the pandemic considering it’s outside, and if there’s enough trees for everyone, people can enjoy the view while social distancing.
-
The Kaspers have a weeping cherry blossom tree planted in their backyard, which is considered to be the oldest cultivated style of the cherry blossom tree in Japan.
All of the mythical creatures are drawn to it whenever it’s in bloom, especially the fairies and Junko the Hyōsube.

-
Hr. Dr. Kasper usually doesn’t invite people over to his house for LOTS of reasons (his wife Freyja is a famous TV host, his father-in-law Erik Ström still stuck due to travel bans, there’s lots of little mythical creatures living there, his dogs go crazy with visitors, etc.).
But he’s feeling a little pity for Kimiko’s homesickness for Japan, and since he has a small cherry blossom tree in his backyard, he’s cautiously allowing her to visit.
Just hope the critters behave themselves, and hope Kimiko doesn’t get too nosy about his background...
Faustuz doesn’t like having to explain things like why there’s a colony of fairies living in the garden, or how his parents met and died.

Page 2: The Herr Doktor goes Hanami in Hiroshima.🌸
-
Hr. Dr. Kasper was raised by his aunt Yoko Kobayashi, a Japanese woman, so he’s very familiar with the Japanese culture and language (Japanese is actually his second language, which still surprises Kimiko whenever he suddenly speaks to her in Japanese because he’s German).
Kimiko has much to learn about her mentor despite being his nurse for almost two years (she knows Cedrick is his son, but doesn’t know if he’s married or not).
-
I’ll have to post up a quick story script about how Kimiko met Hr. Dr. Kasper sometime.
He treats her like a younger sister, but Kimiko is still confused about her thoughts about him.

This will be a short story regarding “Hanami” - or “Flower-Watching” in Japanese regarding the Sakura blossoms in bloom around this time of the year.

Johannes Faustuz and Hansel wearing Jinbei for Hanami in Hiroshima.
(when they were boys, they wore matching ones; nowadays they try to wear opposite colors)
-
Prior to 2020’s Pandemic, all of the Kaspers go to Hiroshima where Tante Yoko is from to see the Sakura blossoms every year.

Hr. Dr. Kasper wearing traditional costume with a Grim Reaper twist.💀
-
Johannes Faustuz has lots of traditional clothing he wears as a Grim Reaper related to the cultures he’s closely associated with (German, Danish, Japanese, Swedish)
This outfit was most influenced by his Danish heritage, the red rose in his pocket grown from his grandmother Aina’s flower shop in Copenhagen.

Quick “versus” drawing of Hr. Dr. Kasper - his surgeon self 🆚 his Grim Reaper self.
-
Somehow this pic is giving me a combo of “Shaman King” and “Hellsing” vibes...
(of the two, “Shaman King” had the biggest impact on me as a young tween; Hiroyuki Takei’s art is so awesome~🤍)

Sigrid’s attire when she feels like dressing up all pretty.
(This is also stuff my mother wore when I was really little)
-
Sigrid is normally a tomboy who mostly wears her high school uniform and activewear.
But when she’s working at her mother’s flower shop or feels like dressing up for fun, Sigrid loves wearing frilly dresses she can twirl around in - often catching Richard’s gaze from afar.

But who is he talking to?
And about what?
🤔
-
Johannes Faustuz calls his wife Freyja “My Love”, his son Cedrick “Wunderkind”, and his father-in-law Erik “Old Man”.
He uses “Darling” for people outside of his immediate family regardless of gender when he’s annoyed, sarcastic, or feeling sassy.

No deadlines.💀
Just have fun drawing this Grim Reaper and his wife with lots of white butterflies flittering by.
I’ll feature entries in posts/stories that come in over time (if anyone does it).
