A closer look at two extended family members: Ida & Sabrina Vandenberg. - Ida Baum met Olafur Kasper in college; she felt pity for him having burn scars on his face and scalp from the war; they quickly bonded over their shared background in the occult and love of American music. They married and had Heinrich; Olaf hoped his firstborn was the new incarnation of Death, while Ida took pride in their son wanting to become an occult historian like herself and her parents. It was a surprise when they were expecting a second child; Ida wanted it to be a girl, but both were soon disappointed when it was another boy (Heinrich was happy to have a little brother and gave him the name Richard). Ida was so depressed after giving birth that her parents took the newborn home with them at Johannesburg to let her recover. Richard was returned about 5 years later, but Ida became more disturbed when she overheard her youngest son bring up past events about his father she never heard about, revealing that he was the long awaited incarnation of Death within the Kasper family. #sketchdump of Sigrid and Richard I haven’t posted since drawing it a few days ago… Could say it’s a closer look at when Sigrid was finally getting used to Richard being around more often, asking questions about his upbringing and past when he was about her age. - Richard was raised by his grandparents in Johannesburg soon after he was born and remained there until he was considered old enough to return to Kiel to start school and not “interfere” with his older brother Heinrich’s studies (mother’s parents were German-Dutch immigrants to South Africa). His father Olaf wasn’t happy having a second son and had hoped that Heinrich was Death Himself incarnated, not Richard; his mother Ida also wanted a daughter and not having the girl she wanted made her abandon her family for a young American soldier and start a new life abroad (she also was horrified when she overheard their son mention the terrible things Olaf had done during the war); this lead to Richard having a hard life living with his father at home but an enjoyable experience at school with his brother and classmates. Richard was quite popular and athletic as a kid and teenager, often playing sports and flirting with girls only to shatter their hearts for fun; he had his first girlfriend in High School, and continued to have many more for years - until he finally stopped with Sigrid. Simple drawing, first one in a while… As long as I don’t clench my hand too much and wear my wrist brace, it’s not too bad... (I should invest in getting a wrist support for typing too) - It’s Stern the Amabie, one of the Kaspers’ many creatures they’ve taken in whenever they’re in need of a home for whatever reason. Stern was found at the backyard by the family cat Klimt, who carried her to Hr. Dr. Kasper’s desk as a “present”; she was flown there by a red-tail hawk nesting in a tree, and escaped its nest full of chicks only to fall down and nearly die from sun exposure and dehydration. It’s not often I’d draw Hr. Dr. Kasper with his parents (Sigrid died a few days after childbirth; Richard “deteriorated” when he was 2-almost-3 years old), but it’s kinda a fun experiment drawing them together just to compare how he looks like to them. It’s pretty obvious that he’d resemble Richard a lot (same coloring, height, etc.), but there’s also quite a bit of Sigrid he inherited (hair style, personality/expressions, etc.). …also it’s another excuse to draw matching plaid outfits influenced by their respective decades, lol.
