As for the song, it’s actually from the 1970s - a little something from Richard’s era since he’s stuck there (Sigrid’s trying her best to get him with the times in regards to his wardrobe and cultural references).
The 1970s had a lot of great music (Disco, Ballards, Rock), and is a decade I find interesting almost in par with the 1980s in regards to media and events (not so much fashion - the 1970s inspired a lot of 1990s fashion, and both decades in regards to clothing kinda sucked in my opinion).

To someone not of the occult community, Richard looks like a typical guy during the 1970s-1980s; however he’s “Death Incarnate”, Death Himself in the flesh living as the youngest son of “The Black Skull of Kiel” and recent heir of the Kasper bloodline.
Since he’s the actual deity, Richard can’t live a full lifespan of a normal human being; he can transform between forms if needed but at the cost of his health in the long term (mainly temporarily having symptoms similar to tuberculosis due to internal bleeding and tissue damage after changing back to human).
Richard was at his peak and nearing the end of his given lifespan when he met Sigrid, whom Fate assigned to him due to her life curse.
He claimed her soul after her lifespan ran out, two days after she gave birth to their son Johannes; four years later, Richard couldn’t maintain his human body much longer, returning to his true form as Death and leaving Johannes to the care of extended family (he still holds a grudge against his father for not explaining why he was left behind and was told by Onkel Heinrich that Richard had died in South Africa from a respiratory infection).

Valentine’s Day was the first day Sigrid met Richard at her mother’s flower shop, soon after her heart was shattered by her childhood crush Batty when he turned down her confession and started dating an older girl close to graduating from her academy.
Initially they had a rough start - Sigrid took out her frustrations on Richard and wasn’t enamored about his reputation (he’s a member of Europe’s most notorious occult family known for their association with dark moments of history, he has a past as a heartbreaking playboy, and was more than twice her age); Richard was smitten at first glance, but kept his true feelings to a minimum to avoid trouble with Batty (who’s a rookie cop) and the academy (students are prohibited from dating until they graduate at age 21; Sigrid was only in her 2nd year at 15-16 years old, and her life curse won’t allow her to live to adulthood).
It was finally after about a year of observation when Richard suffered Lovesickness and Sigrid realized her true feelings for him, leading to an unexpected night together and making their relationship official.
Another year will pass before their romance is discovered, forcing Sigrid to drop out of school and a hasty engagement/wedding to avoid further scandal.

A day trip to the beach away from Copenhagen…

On weekends Richard and Sigrid would often go out to the beach during the day and Tivoli Gardens or the movie theater very late at night to avoid being caught dating (the biggest reason being that Sigrid’s academy prohibits dating before graduation, the other reason is Richard’s age and not so favorable reputation within the occult community as a member of the Kasper Family).
They do eventually get caught kissing at the arcade by Sigrid’s classmates after almost a year dating, leading to Sigrid’s expulsion, quick engagement to Richard, and moving away to Kiel to avoid further harassment.
Even in present times the occult community in Copenhagen still whisper about their taboo relationship and Sigrid’s sudden expulsion from the academy despite being its most powerful Witch - which is the biggest source of their son Johannes’ discomfort whenever he visits his grandmother’s flower shop (he doesn’t like the fact his father was so much older than his mother and was ultimately the cause of her death, but he’s grateful that Richard really loved Sigrid and still holds her soul close by in the Underworld).

I had made an Insta-Story earlier briefly mentioning about how Richard was developed, but I’ll elaborate here:
Originally Freyja’s father Erik was planned to be Death with a design based of Death in the 1957 Swedish film “The Seventh Seal”, but a scrawny pale man in a black cloak didn’t match up with Erik’s boisterous and proud personality - he’s Viking royalty and making him a weapons maker was the better choice (not to mention he hates Johannes, which wouldn’t work well if he was Death since he’d call Johannes a worthless Grim Reaper for the family business - totally not what Johannes is).

Richard was already written out as an “Angel of Death” - a Viking prince who converted to Christianity, became a cardinal only to be killed by another out of jealousy, and was given immortality by evil spirits to take revenge on the descendants of the man who murdered him; therefore making him Death and having his son working for him made perfect sense.
Richard was also described as handsome and cunning, so it also didn’t make sense to make him look like Death from “The Seventh Seal” (and Richard isn’t Swedish); instead he gets based off of Death in one of my favorite “Twilight Zone” episodes titled “Nothing in the Dark” - Death is a handsome man who finally got an old lady to let him in her home so he could take her soul away to eternity (familiar vibes to how Richard is sent to collect Sigrid’s cursed soul).
The actor who played Death was also a popular heartthrob of the 1970s, making it perfect inspiration - Richard’s fashion sense is stuck in the 1970s, he’s known to be a heartbreaking playboy, and he loves Disco during the 1980s when it was declared dead (adds to the insult of “Old Man” he got from Sigrid when they first met).

Freyja’s just as capable as her husband Johannes in fighting monsters if left on her own.
As the daughter of an occult weapons maker descended from Viking royalty and a Pesta (a rare female Grim Reaper from Norway), she’s skilled with any weapon light enough to handle with one hand (she prefers axes, hammers, and blades).
Despite her mother being a Reaper, Freyja didn’t inherit the ability to see souls (Grim Reapers are also most commonly male in modern Western Europe; Viking times had many more female Reapers until the spread of Christianity lead to their near extinction due to being accused as Witches).

I was going for a little bit of a retro anime VHS look, but it’s not quite there…
The effects of the filters also made Richard’s platinum blond hair all white and Sigrid’s hair more orange (she has light brown/dirty blonde hair)…

Normally Sigrid sees Richard as an older dorky guy (his usual attire is t-shirts, jeans, and gym shoes and being disheveled from doing chores around her mother’s flower shop), but seeing him all cleaned up and dressed in a suit for work at the university makes her blush and easily compare him to popular heartthrobs of the 1970s and 1980s (Sigrid also has a weakness for men in suits and uniforms; her childhood crush Batty was a police academy student).
