I’m still alive…
I’m still awake…
Work has also been busy (they really missed me, lol).
And I’m barely surviving mentally with Creative Burnout, Artist’s Block, and keeping up with my Duolingo lessons (I’m surprised how much French I still remember from High School and College, and I’m actually starting to appreciate German despite being a frustrating language).
Here’s something I finally finished that has been sitting in the Scrap Pile since June (not everything I doodle gets finished - sometimes it takes months to get back to or it’s never).
Richard could’ve been a bit more refined, but my brain is at its limit - I’m still struggling with my attention span since having COVID-19 (it’s been harder to stay focused ever since; I’ve been recently buying fidget devices and trying to read books on my iPad, and it seems to be slowly helping me regain my brain’s stamina).

For those who haven’t been up to date with my Instastories and wondering why I haven’t posted anything in a week, it’s because I got COVID-19.

I’m really in a dark mood with my condition one day feeling fine and the next (like today) feeling like I’m not getting better.
I’m definitely over the sore throat, but the nasal congestion, coughing, and low grade fever just keeps pounding me in waves to retreat back to the couch and wallow in misery.

Kasper Grim Reapers: Hansel (Hanzo), Johannes Faustuz, Richard, and Cedrick.
💀
Hansel is half Asian (Tante Yoko is Japanese with some Korean ancestry), and only takes up the role as a Grim Reaper when his younger cousin Faustuz is away busy abroad from Kiel.
Richard is the actual Grim Reaper (Der Sensenmann): Death Himself.
He gets a human incarnation whenever Fate feels like giving him a reward (usually once every 500-1,000 years), but can only live as a human for a short amount of time (as short as 15, no longer than 40 years).
He can only be summoned by one of his living descendants if needed and can have a temporary human body for up to two weeks before turning back to his skeletal form.
Faustuz is Death’s son and current heir of the Kasper bloodline with “Odin’s Eye”, an ability that allows him to see a monster’s weaknesses.
His son Cedrick also has “Odin’s Eye”, and is his Junior Reaper accompanying him whenever there’s a rogue monster or wandering souls floating around.

A week off and the boats had long sailed away from the canal, but it’s still the end of June, so…
⛵️
It’s kinda a paper doll of Richard featuring something he would be wearing for Kiel Week.
His human character design almost always has him wearing a shirt with a 1970s-80s logo design tied to his hometown via county flag, city/state flag colors, text, and/or sailboats.
(The Kaspers are from Kiel where an annual festival of boats is held in June; Kiel Woche is also Germany’s 2nd largest festival after Oktoberfest)
There’s a lot of reasons why Kiel was picked as the Kasper’s hometown - the main ones are that boats are associated with Death and the journey to the Afterlife (the Kaspers are Grim Reapers), and the name “Kiel” is similar to the word “Keel” which is the backbone of a ship that keeps the whole unit together as one piece (Kaspers are known to be very loyal to their family and who they serve).
Kiel is in part of Jutland that was once ruled by Denmark, making them descendants of Vikings who were masters of boats and the sea; Kiel also starts with the letter “K” like “Kasper”, so yarp - it can’t get any more literal than that.
River cities like Hamburg, Bonn, or Cologne technically could’ve work instead since they have boats as well, but it feels a bit off…
Kiel was also historically a naval port and has a cool coastal climate (two things I hold dear to my heart as a Navy Brat spending my early years living next to the ocean).
And cool coastal areas tend to be foggy, which adds to the creepy ghostly vibes the Kaspers give off as descendants of Death.

By the late 1970s/early 1980s after establishing himself as Europe’s most deadliest Reaper, Richard was told by Fate he approx. had 5 more years before he had to return to his true form as Death for an unforeseeable time.
This made things even more complicated for him since becoming the current heir of the Kasper bloodline after his older brother Heinrich gave up the title when he married Yoko and their 2 children didn’t inherit the family’s infamous “Odin’s Eye” (Richard enjoyed being single and breaking many young women’s hearts for fun as a wandering Playboy, and as the younger of 2 sons he expected to live a carefree laidback life).
Richard had agreed to get engaged to a high-class Enchantress named Sheila handpicked by the family’s patriarch to stop the incessant lecture of needing a new heir.
But after a year of dealing with her expensive spending habits driving him to close his private medical practice from bankruptcy and witnessing Sheila mistreating his sister-in-law, he immediately threw her out in the rain with her newly bought clothes and vowed to let Fate decide what will happen.
Out of a whim a few months later, Fate assigned him to observe Sigrid who had a life curse due within 2 years, knowing he would have to personally claim her soul as the price promised by her father to extend his life.
Richard was immediately smitten by Sigrid’s beauty and snarky personality, but also felt pity knowing that most of her dreams and wishes would never happen because she didn’t have long to live (Sigrid was already suffering heartbreak after her childhood crush Batty chose another girl to be his eventual fiancée, and she was constantly the target of bullies at the academy due to her Wicca background); after seeing Sigrid’s cursed condition, Richard felt determined to woo and give her the best quality of life.

“WHO THE F*CK IS BATTY?!”
Sebastian “Batty” Sorensen was Sigrid’s childhood crush since she was about 3 and he was almost 10; she first saw him while playing at his father’s arcade, and ever since she was in love.
Batty always thought Sigrid was annoying watching him from behind, or stammering whenever she tried talking to him; he didn’t think she was worth looking at since he overheard she “doesn’t have much time left to live”.
Batty also didn’t like how his father wanted him to marry Sigrid because she regularly visited the arcade and her mother Aina hired him to help out around the flower shop; he purposely kept being mean with hopes that she’ll leave him alone.
To keep his distance from Sigrid, Batty quickly enrolled at the police academy at Copenhagen after graduating high school; since returning as a police officer 4 years later, Batty has been the seen as the neighborhood beau and town’s hero.
Sigrid was so excited about his homecoming that she made him a large bouquet of rare flowers; her heart shattered when she saw an older schoolmate with the bouquet she gave Batty, declaring that he had asked her out for a date.
The next year on Valentine’s Day Batty proposed to the same girl, making Sigrid hopeless on love (it was also the same day she first met Richard visiting her mother’s shop for rare plants).
Initially Batty didn’t think much of Richard, but seeing he’s not from Denmark made him suspicious (Richard was from Germany and spoke bad Danish).
Batty quickly grew jealous seeing Richard wooing Sigrid as his own relationship was growing more turbulent; he also saw Richard as a rival with his growing reputation as a reliable handyman man for miscellaneous tasks around town (Batty actually was terrible repairing things, leaving tasks halfway done before leaving for another).
Batty finally realized how much he actually loved Sigrid when he heard she had died after giving birth to a son, feeling remorseful of the years mistreating her when they were children.

•Normally Richard hates cats because they’re constantly attracted to him and chase unclaimed wandering souls away like yarn balls (annoying for Reapers, especially when he’s the actual Grim Reaper Death Himself; this is why Kaspers have pet dogs, especially Hellhounds).
But since meeting Sigrid (who loves cats), he’s been able to tolerate them more - up to the point he’s attached to the neighborhood tomcat Odin and Sigrid’s neighbor’s cat Hedy.
•Sigrid often gets cold whenever she’s out and about.
She’s not fond of Richard’s fur coat fashion-wise (she said it makes him look like a wild bear), but as soon as he wraps her in it, she immediately forgets how much she hates it with its warmth and scent (Richard wears Calvin Klein Obsession cologne).
•Sigrid’s childhood crush Batty constantly rebuffs her affection over the years, finally up to the point he started dating an older girl from her academy and recently proposed.
She initially took out her heartbroken frustrations out on Richard when they first met, but with each visit to her mother’s flower shop, Sigrid slowly became attached to him despite his reputation as a Playboy and true identity as Death.
She’s finally opening up, wondering if he’d like to go to the formal dinner with her at the academy (I might draw up something with this idea in mind; and because it’s a masquerade, Richard could hide his true form under a mask…).
•And Richard got a haircut…
(the resemblance between him and his son really shows once the curls are gone)
Because Hr. Dr. Kasper looks almost like a carbon-copy of his father, he grows his hair out long - which is straight and silky just like his mother Sigrid’s.

It’s that time of the year again – the busiest day of the Winter/Spring Meet at Santa Anita Park!
This year of 2022 on Saturday April 9th features 12 races (including the Santa Anita Derby) – which means a very busy long day for me inside working while people outside enjoy all the fun (I heard Marshmellow would be performing in the Infield during the races, so for anyone who likes EDM, it might be a good day to go).
If you happen to visit/live in the Los Angeles area, feel free to check out the track and absorb the historic atmosphere (the horse smell actually isn’t that bad 🐴 – my dad would always say “That’s money you’re smelling!” wherever there’s large animals around, lol).
And until Easter Sunday April 17th, they have a Carnival Festival in the Infield - so there’ll be things to do with little ones besides watching the horses run.

Sigrid usually wears her school uniform, even when working in her mother’s flower shop, and visiting the library at the university campus where Richard works; at the arcade is where Sigrid shows off her true sense of fashion (more so when she started dating).
Richard is very frugal when it comes to attire so he’s about a decade behind when it comes to fashion; after they met was when he slowly started trying new clothes in the 1980s.
