Sigrid’s love interests:
Sebastian “Batty” Sorensen
& Richard “Dickie” Kasper
-
Batty was a very stoic guy who showed little affection yet all the girls in the neighborhood adored him for his dark hair and striking sapphire-blue eyes.
Batty also joined the police academy soon after graduating High School and returned home as a rookie cop, putting an uniform on top of his good looks.
Sigrid had been in love with him since they first met as children at his father’s arcade, but Batty rejected her confession in favor for another schoolmate at her academy (as the neighborhood’s beau he thought should date the most beautiful girl around).
He also knew of her shortened lifespan due to her father’s curse, adding to his view of Sigrid “as a waste of his time”.
After Richard first appeared helping out at Sigrid’s mother’s flower shop, Batty started feeling suspicious and jealous mainly because he was spending a lot of time with Sigrid and taking her attention away (Batty also didn’t like the fact Richard was a foreigner, much older, and comes from an occult family notorious for partaking in history’s unfortunate events).
As Sigrid and Richard’s relationship blossomed, Batty’s own romance was quickly crumbling apart - adding to his disgust towards the man he sees as his rival (his engagement was broken, he was expecting twins with his ex-fiancée, and he was being sent to another city’s police department away from his immediate family).
It wasn’t until after news of Sigrid’s death he regretted not reciprocating her love and wondered how different his life would’ve been if he had dated and married her instead (it’s why Batty has complicated feelings whenever Johannes visits Copenhagen - he pities him not growing up knowing his mother Sigrid but also detests him since he physically takes after his father Richard).

“
Who am I?
What am I?
My name is Richard Kasper…
But this form is just an incarnation…
My true self…
I am Death, the Grim Reaper…
“
Short series of pics featuring Death that were posted as Stories sometime ago in February 2023…

Death Himself
💀
Artist Notes 🗒️:
• Death’s Incarnation’s Full Name:
Richard Gottfried Kasper
I gave my version of Death the first name “Richard” which means “strong king” or “brave ruler” - referring to his role as the ultimate ruler of all souls when it’s time to collect them.
His older brother Heinrich gave him the name Richard when their parents were too upset having a second son and learning he was Death given a chance to be temporarily human (this lead to their mother eloping with an American soldier and having the daughter she desired, and Richard was treated harshly by their father in response - thus making him retaliate by attracting attention being a cruel Grim Reaper and heartbreaking playboy); the two brothers were close despite their opposite personalities and age gap.
His middle name is a Germanic version of “Geoffrey” / “Jeffery” meaning “peace of God”, which again points to his role as Death (he prefers people live a full life before putting them to rest but isn’t afraid to snatch up a few extra souls if they’re easy pickings).
[and yes… people had pointed out his resemblance to a certain Jeff when he wears glasses… 😑 But his appearance is actually based off of Mr. Death in “The Twilight Zone” episode “Nothing in the Dark” portrayed by Robert Redford]
His last name “Kasper” is a Germanic/Scandinavian version of “Jasper” derived from a Hebrew word meaning “treasurer” - also alluding to his family’s role of collecting souls (also it’s a variation of the name “Casper” which most associate with the fictional ghost).
The Kasper Family is also based in Kiel which is located on Jutland that has been part of Denmark for many centuries, meaning they’re actually ethnically Danish not German (Jutland is currently split between Denmark & Germany, and their hometown is now part of Germany which is why they’re listed as “German” on their character sheets).

“Am I really that bad?”
💀
Based off a quote from Mr. Death in the “TWILIGHT ZONE”, the version Richard gets his inspiration from.
(“NOTHING IN THE DARK”)
-
To someone not of the occult community, Richard looks like a typical guy during the 1970s-1980s; however he’s “Death Incarnate”, Death Himself in the flesh living as the youngest son of “The Black Skull of Kiel” and recent heir of the Kasper bloodline.
Since he’s the actual deity, Richard can’t live a full lifespan of a normal human being; he can transform between forms if needed but at the cost of his health in the long term (mainly temporarily having symptoms similar to tuberculosis due to internal bleeding and tissue damage after changing back to human).
Richard was at his peak and nearing the end of his given lifespan when he met Sigrid, whom Fate assigned to him due to her life curse.
He claimed her soul after her lifespan ran out, two days after she gave birth to their son Johannes; four years later, Richard couldn’t maintain his human body much longer, returning to his true form as Death and leaving Johannes to the care of extended family (he still holds a grudge against his father for not explaining why he was left behind and was told by Onkel Heinrich that Richard had died in South Africa from a respiratory infection).

LADY IN RED
"I’ll never forget… The way you look tonight."
(Post Version)
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! ❤️
The art style is inspired by René Gruau fashion pics I stumbled across via Pinterest.
It’s another 1980s OC pic with Richard/Death and Sigrid at another debutante ball with onlooking schoolmates.
And what other classic song from the 1980s could be better than “The Lady in Red” for Valentine’s Day?
-
Valentine’s Day was the first day Sigrid met Richard at her mother’s flower shop, soon after her heart was shattered by her childhood crush Batty when he turned down her confession and started dating an older girl close to graduating from her academy.
Initially they had a rough start - Sigrid took out her frustrations on Richard and wasn’t enamored about his reputation (he’s a member of Europe’s most notorious occult family known for their association with dark moments of history, he has a past as a heartbreaking playboy, and was more than twice her age); Richard was smitten at first glance, but kept his true feelings to a minimum to avoid trouble with Batty (who’s a rookie cop) and the academy (students are prohibited from dating until they graduate at age 21; Sigrid was only in her 2nd year at 15-16 years old, and her life curse won’t allow her to live to adulthood).
It was finally after about a year of observation when Richard suffered Lovesickness and Sigrid realized her true feelings for him, leading to an unexpected night together and making their relationship official.
Another year will pass before their romance is discovered, forcing Sigrid to drop out of school and a hasty engagement/wedding to avoid further scandal.

More character sheets from my iPad, another comparison between 1970s, 1980s, and 2020s clothing with Johannes and his parents Sigrid and Richard.
Sometimes I just feel like drawing my OCs in clothes like they’re dolls, and clothes from recent past decades have been on trend.

A day trip to the beach away from Copenhagen…
(Original Version)
-
On weekends Richard and Sigrid would often go out to the beach during the day and Tivoli Gardens or the movie theater very late at night to avoid being caught dating (the biggest reason being that Sigrid’s academy prohibits dating before graduation, the other reason is Richard’s age and not so favorable reputation within the occult community as a member of the Kasper Family).
They do eventually get caught kissing at the arcade by Sigrid’s classmates after almost a year dating, leading to Sigrid’s expulsion, quick engagement to Richard, and moving away to Kiel to avoid further harassment.
Even in present times the occult community in Copenhagen still whisper about their taboo relationship and Sigrid’s sudden expulsion from the academy despite being its most powerful Witch - which is the biggest source of their son Johannes’ discomfort whenever he visits his grandmother’s flower shop (he doesn’t like the fact his father was so much older than his mother and was ultimately the cause of her downfall, but he’s grateful that Richard really loved Sigrid and as Death still holds her soul close by in the Underworld).

2.5 hours spent on this pic (not including the primary sketches, which took at least 1 hour to make).
I also used different brushes to color Richard, giving him a paint marker look - basically some coloring practice.
—
I had made an Insta-Story earlier briefly mentioning about how Richard was developed, but I’ll elaborate here:
Originally Freyja’s father Erik was planned to be Death with a design based of Death in the 1957 Swedish film “The Seventh Seal”, but a scrawny pale man in a black cloak didn’t match up with Erik’s boisterous and proud personality - he’s Viking royalty and making him a weapons maker was the better choice (not to mention he hates Johannes, which wouldn’t work well if he was Death since he’d call Johannes a worthless Grim Reaper for the family business - totally not what Johannes is).
-
Richard was already written out as an “Angel of Death” - a Viking prince who converted to Christianity, became a cardinal only to be killed by another out of jealousy, and was given immortality by evil spirits to take revenge on the descendants of the man who murdered him; therefore making him Death and having his son working for him made perfect sense.
Richard was also described as handsome and cunning, so it also didn’t make sense to make him look like Death from “The Seventh Seal” (and Richard isn’t Swedish); instead he gets based off of Death in one of my favorite “Twilight Zone” episodes titled “Nothing in the Dark” - Death is a handsome man who finally got an old lady to let him in her home so he could take her soul away to eternity (familiar vibes to how Richard is sent to collect Sigrid’s cursed soul).
The actor who played Death was also a popular heartthrob of the 1970s, making it perfect inspiration - Richard’s fashion sense is stuck in the 1970s, he’s known to be a heartbreaking playboy, and he loves Disco during the 1980s when it was declared dead (adds to the insult of “Old Man” he got from Sigrid when they first met).

“Hello there…” 🖤
(Reel / TikTok Version)
[Original post had an issue, so I had to repost…]
-
Over time Sigrid grew accustomed to Richard’s weekly visits to her mother’s flower shop, becoming more curious about him rather than annoyed and aloof trying to avoid him.
She learns about his interests in computers, arcades, comic books, and movies on top of medicine and scientific research, realizing how much they have in common despite their large age gap (versus her childhood crush Batty who’s always been interested in sports, athletics, war documentaries, and cars).
The more Sigrid opens up, the more she falls in love with Richard and wants him to stay longer; Richard, on the other hand, had to suppress a large amount of his feelings to avoid trouble with Batty and Sigrid’s academy - leading to having Lovesickness.

The Grim Reaper’s wife…
💀
Freyja’s just as capable as her husband Johannes in fighting monsters if left on her own.
As the daughter of an occult weapons maker descended from Viking royalty and a Pesta (a rare female Grim Reaper from Norway), she’s skilled with any weapon light enough to handle with one hand (she prefers axes, hammers, and blades).
Despite her mother being a Reaper, Freyja didn’t inherit the ability to see souls (Grim Reapers are also most commonly male in modern Western Europe; Viking times had many more female Reapers until the spread of Christianity lead to their near extinction due to being accused as Witches).

The Three Eternal Deities:
Fate, Death, & Nature.
-
Fate is in charge of all things existing, including Time itself and the concept of Who, What, When, Where, & Why.
She was bored being alone, so she first created a second Deity she named Nature (a.k.a. Life) to help create the World & its living beings.
However, Fate foresaw Nature’s careless behavior of causing disasters & greediness to make various forms of life overtake the World; to control the population & overconsumption of resources, she created Death to collect & store souls.
Of the 3, Death is the least liked due to his task to slow the eventual depletion of resources and Life itself; to ease his frustration, Fate allows him to take human form to explore & observe the nature of humanity over different eras (he obtains an incarnation every 1000 years or so, depending upon Fate’s generosity).
Lately Fate’s frustrated with the uncontrolled exponential growth of human populations & extinction of organisms caused by Nature’s whims, ordering Death to set up a small army of Grim Reapers (humans in various cultures who understand Death’s purpose).
Death has a handful of Grim Reaper families he favors, especially to those he’d been birthed into (he’s had at least 2 incarnations within the Kasper Family before Richard); only his current incarnation was able to live long enough to have a son, creating a new set of Grim Reapers (many also speculate whether if his descendants are considered Deities or mortals with magical powers comparable to a Deity).
