This is what I’ve been working on for the last few weeks — finally a new short story done after over 2 years, but this time it’s featuring Johannes’ parents Sigrid and Richard.
[IG is only letting me post 20 at a time, but this is most of the story; I’ll have the remaining pages in the next post]
—
Copenhagen, 1985. Sigrid is sixteen, brilliant, cursed—and marked by Death.
When a Fossegrim tries to drown her in a haunted fountain, she’s saved by a towering figure with mismatched eyes and a bloody scythe. His name is Richard Kasper, and he is Death Himself.
But Death doesn’t just want her soul—he wants to protect her.
And Death never lets go.

So I asked Chat GPT to make one of my OC drawings into a realistic portrait, got the image lightly retouched with FaceApp to match his drawn features more accurately, then had TikTok animate him…
Yeah… Oops… Sorry… 😅
I made the realistic portrait of Richard into a live-photo magazine cover featuring some of his character information: other titles he goes by, birthday, height, blood type, birthplace, and source of inspiration for his design—it’s one of my all-time favorite TWILIGHT ZONE episodes titled “Nothing in the Dark” which actually does features Death (the episode also inspired the creation of two other OCs—Sigrid’s elderly mother Aina and Batty Sorensen the police officer).
Once you watch that episode, you’ll understand the joke lots of older people say: “If Death looked like Robert Redford, I’d go willingly in a heartbeat”.💀

Question: Would you go with Death if he looked like this?
Just an art process…
[wait for the surprise reveal in the reverse run]

The Grim Reaper & Wicca
Though he acts cold and aloof whenever he’s around her in public, Sigrid knows behind the act Richard deeply cares about her…

Ai Dark Fantasy vibes here with Death…
[also AOT for obvious reasons]
His face would normally be divided up into quarters if drawn, but a more realistic approach would be showing more of his skeletal structure like this.
Each transformation from human form into deity would also be different in the amount of bone shows and flesh remains.

Something different, a bit on the artsy graphic design side…

It’s always about this time of the year when he gets a new outfit to show off, since 2019…

Meh...
Felt like drawing one of these kind of sketchy pics.
It’s pretty much official that Johannes Faustuz is a millennial with how he’s dressed and acts (getting old, but ain’t that old - just like ME!)
This version of the Kasper Project also takes place in the near future.
-
You can actually figure out what year Faustuz would be born on by looking at son’s birthday - Cedrick was born on Friday the 13th of October.
The last time we had one was in 2017, and 2006 before that (the year I started becoming invested with this project). If Cedrick was born in 2006, he’d be 15 in 2021; Faustuz would have to be born in 1981. To push it a bit more into the future, if Cedrick was born in 2017, Faustuz would be born in 1992.
Whether it’s 1981 or 1992, Papa Kasper is 100% a millennial.

The son of Death guiding a soul…

Idk how long it took me to make this—I really need sleep. 😭💀
It’s also drawn in a different angle with a fisheye effect—and (of course) the stupid automatic cropping IG does—so it’s looking really weird to me, and I’m not sure if I like it.
It’s back to current times with Johannes and his son Cedrick.
[I plan on drawing all 4 main Grim Reapers again eventually…]

Hans and Hans—
One’s a doctor, the other’s a nurse.
But when they’re not doing their day jobs at the hospital, they’re both Grim Reapers—but Tyrone doesn’t know anything about the occult world.

A revamped version of an older video of these two Kaspers from 2023:
Johannes Faustuz and his father Richard [Death Himself / Der Sensenmann]

It’s been hard to find a consistent ai voice for Johannes, but this one seems to be like a male version of what I’ve been using for Sigrid [his mother], so I’m going to try to keep using it as long as it’s available.
In reality he would have a German-Danish accent being from Jutland—same applies for his parents, uncle, and cousins; Cedrick has a slight accent but can pass as American after years living in California, and Freyja is Swedish yet speaks “perfect” English being a TV show host (I haven’t seen a famous Swede actor or singer ever speak with a pure Swedish accent now that I think about it… Not the Skarsgårds or Tobias Forge… 😵💫).

A lovestruck Sigrid in the greenhouse…
Who’s she thinking of?
Her childhood crush Sebastian “Batty” Sorensen?
Her favorite band’s lead singer Morten Harket?
Or is it that Grim Reaper who has been visiting the flower shop to checkup on her soul’s status?

So I know it’s currently a trend rn, but people really need to respect Miyazaki and just learn how to draw if they really want to appreciate his art…😒
Someone out there likened using ai to recreate the Ghibli art style is like a person saying microwaving a frozen pizza makes him a professional chef.
It can be fun tool to use, but ai is sucking out the experience of creativity and appreciation of work; it’s making people really think art is just some quick, easy, cheap gimmick when in reality it took many lifetimes to get where we’re at.
I don’t hate ai as in can be a useful tool to help in the process [as well as assist in many other things such as searching for cures for diseases and programming], but exclusively using it to make stuff is soulless—art will always need a human touch.
This?
I lost count how many hours it took me to make this, and it’s not even animated like a Studio Ghibli film…
[it definitely took me more than 8 hours overall 💀]
