Another #sketchdump with some extra tacked on the end.
💕Sigrid often gets teased by her mother Aina whenever she’s around Richard, especially when she’s caught chatting with him instead of working at the flower shop (both will talk nonstop about video games and sci-fi movies).
It didn’t take long before Aina would also tease Richard, asking when he’ll propose and give her grandchildren.
📚Sigrid and two classmates at the all-girls (enchantress) academy.
She was bullied for not being very rich (her father abandoned her and Aina, leaving them broke and Sigrid with less than 20 years of life), and relying on plants to create spells instead of “one’s inner ability” (enchantresses tend to be from high-born families with inherited wealth; using plants is also considered “primitive” to modern enchantresses, thus why Sigrid and Aina are both called “witches”).
Despite this, Sigrid excelled in her studies and was ranked top student in the academy - only adding to the ire of her classmates.
Her classmates were quick and eager to get Sigrid expelled when it was revealed she had been secretly dating; but since she died, they’ve expressed regret for their cruelty - especially after seeing Aina with her grandson.
💐Sigrid delivering a bouquet with her neighbor’s/home room teacher’s cat Hedy; she loves making and delivering flower bouquets because it brings joy to others.
She also enjoys riding her bike to see the main sights of Copenhagen to briefly escape the academy and flower shop.
Her pink bicycle is now ridden by her grandson Cedrick who uses it to pick up groceries and other supplies the many critters at home need.

Inside Aina’s greenhouse where her daughter Sigrid can be found tending to the hundreds of plants growing there.
Every now and then the neighbor’s cat Hedy would make herself home to nap and bask in the sunlight amongst the plants; an even more rare sight inside the greenhouse is Sigrid’s boyfriend Richard (as the incarnation of Death, he’s afraid of killing her plants).
Richard is more likely outside the greenhouse killing Tatzelwurms and other mythical pests threatening Aina and Sigrid’s livelihood as florists and “natural herbalists”(mother and daughter don’t like it when people call them “witches”).

Richard and Sigrid sharing a quick kiss in Aina’s greenhouse; whenever they think she’s not looking, Sigrid’s mother loves popping up out of nowhere just to surprise them and try to “enhance the mood” (obviously Sigrid would get upset while Richard says “Thanks” and tries to lead Aina out of the room).
••••
Because of Sigrid’s life curse, Aina was saddened with the fact her daughter wouldn’t live long enough to get married and have children - more so when the arcade owner’s son Batty got engaged to another girl (Aina was close friends with Batty’s father; both hoped their children would fall in love and get married).
When Richard first arrived in her flower shop, Aina was smitten with his looks and charm, immediately thinking he’d be the perfect man for her daughter despite his reputation as the youngest son of “The Black Skull of Kiel” and as a promiscuous playboy (Richard also had just broken off his engagement).
Aina knew Sigrid might not like him at first for obvious reasons (Sigrid’s heart was recently broken, instantly called Richard by his nickname “Dick” because that’s what she thought he was, and sensed he wasn’t a normal a Grim Reaper), but was surprised how quickly their relationship developed over the next year.
Aina was beyond excited when Richard and Sigrid became a couple, even more so when they were finally expecting a child.
But Aina’s view of Richard was shattered when she walked in Sigrid’s hospital room unannounced, seeing the harsh truth that he was Death all along as he pulled and held out Sigrid’s soul (Grim Reapers don’t personally remove people’s souls, just collect them up after the incident causing death occurred; only Death Himself will personally take souls that are marked by curses).
Aina is still upset about Richard not being truthful about his identity as Death and intent to take Sigrid away, but doesn’t let that anger carry over towards her grandson Johannes Faustuz despite resembling his father.

It’s not often I’d draw Hr. Dr. Kasper with his parents (Sigrid died a few days after childbirth; Richard “deteriorated” when he was 2-almost-3 years old), but it’s kinda a fun experiment drawing them together just to compare how he looks like to them.
It’s pretty obvious that he’d resemble Richard a lot (same coloring, height, etc.), but there’s also quite a bit of Sigrid he inherited (hair style, personality/expressions, etc.).
…also it’s another excuse to draw matching plaid outfits influenced by their respective decades, lol.
(I just really like drawing outfits on OCs, okay?!)
Feel free to comment below to say which parent Johannes Faustuz resembles, or vote on the poll featured in “SIGRID’S DIARY”.
(You can comment on which outfit/OC is your favorite as well)

It seems like a random doodle, but I can explain:
When I was watching SQUID GAME, I was like “I know I’ve seen that color of jacket…”
Yeah… it’s because I’ve drawn the same green color jacket before. 💀
It’s not exact, but pretty darn close.
(It’s also my favorite shade of green too, lol; reference on the last slide to see the original jacket I had in mind)
It’s also a similar shade of green doctors (particularly surgeons) wear to contrast with red, and obviously there’s one doctor OC who happens to wear a lot of green as part of his design…

A few skin tone palettes I use for my OCs; I use similar colors when using alcohol markers.
Some skin tones are trickier than others (especially fair and dark) due to not getting so dark and having the right amount of contrast between colors - if it’s any darker, fair skin turns into medium/olive skin; if dark skin is too dark, you can’t see any important facial details.

Quick drawing of Hr. Dr. Kasper in traditional Reaper clothing.
(2nd Slide is an old post)
💀 Grim Reaper Notes 💀
As Halloween gets closer, more rogue monsters and lost souls are more abound as the boundaries between the living and dead are weakened due to the waning hours of sunlight, making it a more busy time for Reapers - often times (depending on regional holidays) Reapers may ask for extra help.
When Reapers are relocated outside their country of origin, it’s customary to wear traditional clothing to show that they aren’t native and are only allowed to work under the authority of the regional Reaper family in charge (if they’re back in Kiel where they’re from, the Kaspers wear exclusively modern Reaper clothing; occasionally they wear highly modernized versions of their traditional clothing to accommodate the hot weather in California).
The Kaspers are normally based in Germany/Scandinavia, but due to medical work they are often relocated in Southern California where another Reaper family is based.
The Rodriguez Family are often swamped during Halloween/Dia de Los Muertos, especially with their oldest daughter Granger as their current sole Reaper (Mrs. Rodriguez injured her leg after fighting a rogue jaguar spirit, while second daughter Carmen hates being a Junior Reaper under her sister, often hanging out with BFF Tricia Williams instead); because California used to be Spanish territory, it follows the logic that many countries with Latin/Romance/Slavic-based languages have female Reapers because the word “Death” is feminine and/or their Death goddesses are referred to as female.
Despite Hr. Dr. Kasper having a direct connection with Death Himself and being more experienced as a Reaper, Granger always takes the opportunity to take charge and call him “Juanito” (vaguely translates into “Cute Little Johnny” in Spanish; his first name “Johannes” is an old version of the common name “John”) whenever they work together.

One of my favorite kind of drawings for OCs:
The whole family all dressed up and color coordinated - which means it doesn’t matter how they’re arranged because they’ll match! 😍
Comment below which arrangement of 3 is your favorite:
• 3: Johannes Faustuz, Freyja, Cedrick (Kasper Family)
• 4: Erik, Cedrick, Johannes Faustuz (“Freyja’s Boys”)
• 5: Cedrick, Freyja, Erik (Ström side of the family)
-
Also, Johannes Faustuz is wearing a 1980s inspired blue suit with a white-collared blue pinstriped shirt and pink necktie like his father Richard (6: last slide).

A bit messier and sloppier than usual, but meh…😑
Maybe I should try making realistic portraits of my characters as a challenge?
Or a tutorial on how to draw one of them?
IDK…

Something drawn earlier this month but been sitting in a digital folder for a while because meh…
I also included closeups of the plaid - it’s no secret that I love drawing patterns on clothes, lol.
I’ve just not been excited drawing lately - I feel like an uninspired slob…
But I’ve been on Duolingo lately to feel productive with my spare time, and I have quite a bit to rant about with some of the things I’ve learned (seriously - “der Mann” [Man] is masculine, “der Junge” [Boy] is also masculine; “die Frau” [Woman] is feminine, so you’d think the German word for “Girl” would also be feminine. NO! It’s “das Mädchen” which is neutral! WTF! And funny I bring that up because this pic literally has a girl in it, lol)

About each drawing:
• Freyja loves using her husband’s glasses as a fashion accessory.
That’s why Johannes Faustuz has so many styles and pairs of them - and because he has so many, he always has a spare pair to see (his right green eye is nearly blind unless it’s activated).
• Faustuz doesn’t like buying new clothes if it’s avoidable, especially for expensive items (he rather spend the money for a date night with Freyja or on treats for the many creatures the family has at home).
Luckily he inherited some stuff from his father Richard that he actually likes to wear, such as watches, rings, and suits (Richard bought a few Armani suits in the 1980s to impress Sigrid).
• Freyja and Faustuz are notorious for staying out late after their dinner dates (for obvious reasons - mainly to get time away from work and their son Cedrick), often upsetting Erik when they finally get home around dawn (he’s always going to be a protective father for his daughter no matter how old she is).

#sketchdump with a lot of OCs at once…😶
• Asia’s not happy with her hubby Tyrone having a hangover after having several drinks the night before with his “work spouse” Hr. Dr. Kasper.
• Cedrick noticed Stern wasn’t in her fishbowl; since she’s so tiny and prone to drying out after long periods of time, he’s panicking trying to find her (she most likely crawled into a hot cup of tea sitting out in the kitchen).
• Freyja is all dressed up for a red carpet event; she’s caught off guard with someone asking where “Mr. Ström” is for the night.
• Some random guy at the local sports bar made fun of Johannes Faustuz drinking a pink cocktail, calling him a “Girly Man”.
Kaspers are known to be extremely vengeful when insulted, so in retaliation Faustuz challenges him to a drinking contest - whoever drinks the most pink cocktails wins.
Tyrone knows his coworker can tolerate a lot of alcohol, but he’s scared of the other guy getting hurt as well as explaining to Asia his whereabouts late at night.
• Sigrid and Richard out on a rare daytime date in the 1980s.
Most of their dates were at night to avoid people they know who don’t approve of their relationship, but if they want to eat out and play the latest arcade games on the same day then they have to plan a date for an earlier time.

Another #sketchdump…
Took awhile to finish this due to being busy with work and feeling lazy/tired/uninspired the past several days.
•Sigrid likes dressing up in shorts & tanks when she’s not wearing school uniforms/dresses; when it’s nighttime she gets cold since she forgets to bring a sweater/jacket.
Since Richard appeared, he’s been lending his coats which smells like Calvin Klein Obsession (Sigrid thought he’d stink with all the monsters & souls he hunts).
•Hedy (Sigrid’s home room teacher/neighbor Mr. Vannderhassen’s cat) loves sneaking into Aina’s greenhouse for naps and visits with Odin (the neighborhood stray tomcat).
As much as Sigrid and her mother love cats, their neighbor often accuses Aina of stealing his cat and is upset seeing a another man with Sigrid.
•Richard gets calls from Aina at his office in Kiel about Tatzelwurms; they’re weasel/snake-like creatures that burrow underground & drawn to valuable crops (Aina grows flowers, shrubs, and herbs).
He’ll get bloodied with scratches and bites killing them, which leads to stains on Aina’s floors; to prevent them, she’d force Richard to strip off his clothes and rinse off all the blood before getting locked in the bathroom until the laundry was done.
•Sigrid relaxing after a doctor’s appointment; both know they’re expecting a boy but not sure if he’ll look like his mother or father (Johannes Faustuz ended up looking a lot like Richard).
•Faustuz was able to see souls when he was about 3-6 months old; one soul would be floating nearby which scared him; it was his mother’s soul Richard keeps around for sentimental reasons after removing it from Sigrid’s body (Death keeps a special collection of souls of people he loved).
•Aina has a hard time telling her grandson about his parents, esp. since it was Richard as Death who took Sigrid’s soul out; because of this, Faustuz grew up hating his father.

Quick #sketchdump of Papa Ström, Papa Kasper, and Wunderkind.
•Cedrick is caretaker of the many creatures at home whenever his father is away, and obviously each critter has their specific needs so he’s often calling around to find their favorite food.
ie. Fritz the baby Wolpertinger loves turnips, while Junko Akane the Hyōsube craves eggplants (aubergines to most of the rest of the world).
•Erik Ström is just being an annoyed grandpa…
He’s mostly annoyed whenever he’s around his son-in-law Johannes Faustuz, or trying to figure out how to create a post on social media and can’t find his daughter Freyja or grandson Cedrick to help him.
•Hr. Dr. Kasper doing his day job as an oncologist; whenever he’s not busy at the hospital, Faustuz is busy dealing with mythical creatures, souls, and fellow reapers.

#sketchdump - just testing out the color palettes I made for skin and hair tones since Autodesk Sketchbook
updated on my iPad.
I still struggle a bit with skin tones, especially dark ones (medium skin tones are the easiest; fair skin tones can be tricky because if it’s too dark it pretty much becomes medium skin).
As for hair tones, blond and grey hair are actually the hardest for me - dark hair like Tricia’s are the most easiest to color.
So to say which OCs were the easiest to draw here?
That’ll be Sigrid, Freyja, Kimiko, Vincent-Claude, and others with similar coloring (Freyja is also fun to draw realistically because she has freckles; Cedrick is still by far the easiest OC to draw based on design).
Feel free to comment below to say which OC you like best. 🤗
