Being involved in the Occult and Mythical with day jobs in Medicine and Education screams Dark Academia, so it made sense to draw these 4 Kaspers wearing this popular trend (there’s Light Academia as well using lighter brighter Summer colors, another look I’m considering drawing for these OCs as well).
Cedrick and his father Hr. Dr. Kasper have a more modern take on the look, while his grandparents Sigrid and Richard looks are rooted in the 1980s when there’s a number of movies reflecting the preppy theme (“Dead Poets Society” is a good one) - and not to also mention fashion from Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger were peaking as well.

A week off and the boats had long sailed away from the canal, but it’s still the end of June, so…
⛵️
It’s kinda a paper doll of Richard featuring something he would be wearing for Kiel Week.
His human character design almost always has him wearing a shirt with a 1970s-80s logo design tied to his hometown via county flag, city/state flag colors, text, and/or sailboats.
(The Kaspers are from Kiel where an annual festival of boats is held in June; Kiel Woche is also Germany’s 2nd largest festival after Oktoberfest)
There’s a lot of reasons why Kiel was picked as the Kasper’s hometown - the main ones are that boats are associated with Death and the journey to the Afterlife (the Kaspers are Grim Reapers), and the name “Kiel” is similar to the word “Keel” which is the backbone of a ship that keeps the whole unit together as one piece (Kaspers are known to be very loyal to their family and who they serve).
Kiel is in part of Jutland that was once ruled by Denmark, making them descendants of Vikings who were masters of boats and the sea; Kiel also starts with the letter “K” like “Kasper”, so yarp - it can’t get any more literal than that.
River cities like Hamburg, Bonn, or Cologne technically could’ve work instead since they have boats as well, but it feels a bit off…
Kiel was also historically a naval port and has a cool coastal climate (two things I hold dear to my heart as a Navy Brat spending my early years living next to the ocean).
And cool coastal areas tend to be foggy, which adds to the creepy ghostly vibes the Kaspers give off as descendants of Death.

I haven’t been drawing much lately (a combination of too tired, too lazy, too bored, and uninspired), so here’s a flashback #repost of last year’s featured OC for June: Freyja’s lovely cousin Einar Ström who is gay.
(I’ve had people ask if Cedrick is gay; he was raised gender-neutral as an only-child but turned out to be 100% male who likes to occasionally wear stuff considered feminine - especially makeup and accessories; Cedrick is also a big fan of K-Pop boy bands and fashion despite being a boy himself; so no, Cedrick isn’t gay, but he’s not afraid to break norms by showing off all his emotions as all humans should be able to regardless of gender and sex).

This year’s MET theme was based off the Gilded Age, and it looked like a sloppy tragic mess - an “F” for execution and effort in my opinion.
There wasn’t not enough puffed sleeves, high collars, pleated skirts, opera gloves, glittery jewelry, bright colors on dresses, feathers and fur, top hats, and not to mention some literally took the “coated in gold” definition.
A lot of the looks came from wrong eras (though some of them were amazing, like Gigi Hadid’s quilted burgundy gown), and some looks were just so lazy (seriously - Marilyn Monroe’s skintight nude-colored dress from the 1960s?! Why?!).
Some menswear were also spot-on like Ryan Reynolds (mens fashion were a bit plain with waistcoats, trousers, and collared shirts with muted solid colors), but again lacked hats and could’ve had some fun with shoes and accessories such as glasses, gloves, bow ties, and pocket watches.
Now who had outfits that did a good job reflecting the Gilded Age aesthetic in my opinion?
Billie Eilish (the colors, silhouette, draping… love it), Bad Bunny (the puffed sleeves, structured coat, and collared shirt), and Emma Corrin (the top hat and her coat kinda resembles a “Bike Suit” and maybe a hint of “Flauntleroy Boy”).

So for fun (with a hint of annoyed spite), in this made-up version of the world where my OC Freyja is a famous personality, she and her family would wear something like these outfits in a Gilded Glamour event.
(and I drew all this after less than a hour of looking at Gilded Age clothing).

Another #sketchdump with some extra tacked on the end.
💕Sigrid often gets teased by her mother Aina whenever she’s around Richard, especially when she’s caught chatting with him instead of working at the flower shop (both will talk nonstop about video games and sci-fi movies).
It didn’t take long before Aina would also tease Richard, asking when he’ll propose and give her grandchildren.
📚Sigrid and two classmates at the all-girls (enchantress) academy.
She was bullied for not being very rich (her father abandoned her and Aina, leaving them broke and Sigrid with less than 20 years of life), and relying on plants to create spells instead of “one’s inner ability” (enchantresses tend to be from high-born families with inherited wealth; using plants is also considered “primitive” to modern enchantresses, thus why Sigrid and Aina are both called “witches”).
Despite this, Sigrid excelled in her studies and was ranked top student in the academy - only adding to the ire of her classmates.
Her classmates were quick and eager to get Sigrid expelled when it was revealed she had been secretly dating; but since she died, they’ve expressed regret for their cruelty - especially after seeing Aina with her grandson.
💐Sigrid delivering a bouquet with her neighbor’s/home room teacher’s cat Hedy; she loves making and delivering flower bouquets because it brings joy to others.
She also enjoys riding her bike to see the main sights of Copenhagen to briefly escape the academy and flower shop.
Her pink bicycle is now ridden by her grandson Cedrick who uses it to pick up groceries and other supplies the many critters at home need.

Wunderkind’s Notes:
Witches
Wicca are the original class of Witch (and they hate being called Witches - they prefer titles such as “Herbal Healers” and “Medicine Women”) who create potions from plants and animals to cast spells.
Because of their vast knowledge of healing and curses frightened Human society over the ages, most had been executed - leaving only a few families of Wicca alive (Aina’s bloodline is one of the oldest from the Nordic and Slavic region of Europe).
Enchantresses, on the other hand, evolved from Wicca over the ages to not rely on magic potions and cast spells by directly accessing their “Magical Potential” (MP).
But because they have ability to hide their magical abilities, they’ve become ignorant of the “Old Ways” and discriminatory towards Wicca - allowing them to become part of the upper class within the Occult community.
Richard has a deep hate towards Enchantresses (his Ex-Fiancée Sheila was one) mainly because of their snobbish behavior and mistreatment towards those they view as inferior (Sheila was verbally abusive towards his sister-in-law Yoko and his nephew and niece due to their Asian ancestry; he immediately broke off their engagement when he saw her force Yoko to carry her bags from an extravagant shopping trip that used up most of his income, leaving him nearly bankrupt).

Sigrid never picked up a so-called “Enchantress’ Air” while attending the academy despite being a Wicca bullied by her Enchantress classmates.
The Headmistress of the academy was also her stepmother, and she thought it’d be funny seeing a Wicca struggle amongst Enchantresses.
But it backfired when it was revealed that Sigrid had the highest MP after using potions - making her the academy’s top student.
Richard was also happy that his new girlfriend was a sweet-natured Wicca, adding more insult and ire towards his Ex after what he’s been through to maintain their relationship (Sheila tried getting back with Richard because she wants the notoriety of the Kasper name).

Sigrid usually wears her school uniform, even when working in her mother’s flower shop, and visiting the library at the university campus where Richard works; at the arcade is where Sigrid shows off her true sense of fashion (more so when she started dating).
Richard is very frugal when it comes to attire so he’s about a decade behind when it comes to fashion; after they met was when he slowly started trying new clothes in the 1980s.

Of all my OCs, it’s Sigrid’s simple schoolgirl clothing and sweet smile that gets a lot of likes - therefore she’s perfect for making into a paper doll.

Both have holiday birthdays!🧁
Tyrone loves it when it’s his birthday at work because everyone has brought food over for Thanksgiving.
Hr. Dr. Kasper hates it when it’s his birthday at work because HE has to bring home-baked pastries and ice cream for everyone - even more so when it’s also Christmas time (where he’s from in Germany/Denmark, I read that it’s actually custom for the birthday boy/girl to bring the goods to work - WTF 😦)

Tyrone’s birthday is 27 November, which often occurs on a Thanksgiving Thursday.🦃
Thanksgiving is obviously his favorite holiday not only because it’s his birthday, but also because of all the amazing food his grandma and wife cooks and he gets to watch all the football he wants on TV with his family (he’s from Houston, Texas, so he’s fiercely loyal to his hometown team).
Hr. Dr. Kasper was born a second shy of Christmas Eve on 23 December.🎄
Where he’s from in Europe, Christmas Eve is the day when gifts are exchanged and the tree is brought in for decoration, and his family thinks of him as the ultimate present - especially for his grandparents (Olaf wanted an heir after Richard, and Aina was so proud that her daughter Sigrid was even able to have a child).
However, it was also a sad time because his mother Sigrid died on Christmas Day - therefore he can be a bit of a mopey grouch when the peak holiday season starts (it’s also bad luck to talk about birthdays early in his homeland, so he really tries to avoid anything associated with it as much as possible).

(hint: she’s current royalty)
Cedrick’s look is very K-Pop boy-band star inspired (he loves K-Pop, Industrial/Metal, and EDM), and Faustuz is what you’d expect some guy from Scandinavia would wear (the Kaspers are from Germany/Denmark and Sweden, so…).
I also included basic OC information of each family member; I simplified some info like birth years and heights since OCs aren’t 100% set (it’s more of a generalization/estimation of what I have in mind).
Freyja and Faustuz are definitely Millennials (so born as early as 1981-1982), and Cedrick is 100% a Zoomer (he was created around 2006, so it makes sense to make him born in the late 2000s to mid 2010s).
And even though their primary residence is around Scandinavia, they’re more associated with being at Los Angeles since a lot of their work is in California.

It’s not often I’d draw Hr. Dr. Kasper with his parents (Sigrid died a few days after childbirth; Richard “deteriorated” when he was 2-almost-3 years old), but it’s kinda a fun experiment drawing them together just to compare how he looks like to them.
It’s pretty obvious that he’d resemble Richard a lot (same coloring, height, etc.), but there’s also quite a bit of Sigrid he inherited (hair style, personality/expressions, etc.).
…also it’s another excuse to draw matching plaid outfits influenced by their respective decades, lol.

It’s not often I’d draw Hr. Dr. Kasper with his parents (Sigrid died a few days after childbirth; Richard “deteriorated” when he was 2-almost-3 years old), but it’s kinda a fun experiment drawing them together just to compare how he looks like to them.
It’s pretty obvious that he’d resemble Richard a lot (same coloring, height, etc.), but there’s also quite a bit of Sigrid he inherited (hair style, personality/expressions, etc.).
…also it’s another excuse to draw matching plaid outfits influenced by their respective decades, lol.

A few skin tone palettes I use for my OCs; I use similar colors when using alcohol markers.
Some skin tones are trickier than others (especially fair and dark) due to not getting so dark and having the right amount of contrast between colors - if it’s any darker, fair skin turns into medium/olive skin; if dark skin is too dark, you can’t see any important facial details.

But I’ve been on Duolingo lately to feel productive with my spare time, and I have quite a bit to rant about with some of the things I’ve learned (seriously - “der Mann” [Man] is masculine, “der Junge” [Boy] is also masculine; “die Frau” [Woman] is feminine, so you’d think the German word for “Girl” would also be feminine. NO! It’s “das Mädchen” which is neutral! WTF! And funny I bring that up because this pic literally has a girl in it, lol)
