Something I drew two years ago - three teenage OCs Cedrick Kasper, Tricia Williams, and Carmen Rodriguez. I forget how a lot of my old pics had vibrant colors. I need to try drawing more pics with this kind of color scheme and clean line art again - but with a lot more pop and pow to it. I’ve been way too lazy…😭 - I also try to keep my cast of characters diverse (especially younger ones like these three), but I still occasionally get a bit nervous about drawing certain ethnic groups because of past experiences. When I was getting more serious about my art as a young teenager, I had peers first complain that I draw only Anime and White people; so when I started drawing other ethnicities as well, the same people then said “You’re not Black or Hispanic - you shouldn’t draw what you ain’t!” •Me [I’m White/Asian]: “Then WTF am I supposed to draw?! Of course I’m going to mostly draw White people because that’s how I was raised and treated as! I draw Anime because I grew up watching it and it’s one of the mainstream Asian products I had access to! And of course I’m not Black or Hispanic, but those groups exist too!”🤦🏻‍♀️ Ugh… Seriously… I’m scarred for life because of crap like that, but now I just draw whatever I feel comfortable with, and if it looks better using a character with a different ethnicity, then so be it. (Nowadays I’m probably not inclusive enough - comment below your opinions) And that’s my advice to anyone who wants to be an artist - draw anyone and everything to be more diverse and inclusive. If anyone gives you hell about it, say “Fine - I’ll draw everyone else but you” (seriously - don’t say that out loud because it’s really mean and implies that they don’t deserve to exist, but we’re at a point society doesn’t need people who still think others should be separated and excluded just because of physical and cultural differences; it’s why the world is such a mess in the first place). I’m gonna be fully vaccinated with my second dose of Moderna - yay! So far, I can tell I’m going to have a super sore arm again (some movements are starting to feel slightly uncomfortable), but I won’t know for sure until tomorrow. I’m still going to wear my masks because my work conditions don’t allow for proper social distancing, and better safe than sorry - especially indoors wherever I can’t maintain distance from other people (the “honor system” is BS here in America - I trust NOBODY after of all the crap the previous POTUS had said and done, and lots people will do and say whatever to not follow the rules regardless of the consequences). - Anyway… In this short, Cedrick can finally be vaccinated like his papa - yay! I feel like I should draw these two again turned around - normally I don’t draw characters from behind. - Ever since Sigrid was really little, she loved going to the arcade. Over the years she’s managed to beat games with only a coin and giving away her prize tickets to little kids to avoid trouble with other regular players; she’s close with the arcade owner and his family, calling him “Uncle Didier”. Richard also enjoys playing arcade games; he and Sigrid would occasionally play against each other to see who would get the highest score. As their relationship progressed, Richard lets Sigrid win more often to avoid having an angry girlfriend at the end of the date; if she lost, he would have to treat her with several ice cream cones to cool her temper (also being lactose intolerant makes going to an ice cream parlor awkward being pressured into buying a scoop for himself). Quick drawing. Masked and unmasked. - While I appreciate the science to get to the point of not wearing masks, I’m still going to wear one because there’s lots of kiddos out there who can’t get the vaccine and are at risk of getting sick, my work environment doesn’t allow me to keep my distance from others within a confined area, it helps dealing with allergies and wildfire smoke, and there’s no reliable “Honor Code” here in America in regards to being vaccinated (seriously - I don’t have much trust for others while living in a country that’s still suffering from misinformation and having to encounter people who refuse following the rules no matter what). Are you someone who read multiple things at the same time? I am - and it’s not always a good thing because details can get a little bit mixed up if I’m not careful. Ideally I’d like to read one thing at a time, but sometimes there’s like half a dozen new things that come out at once and I want to read it all to get things done faster. And I’m stuck in black and white textual mode again - sometimes color is too much for my poor eyes and drawing hand to handle. Something from the “Scrap Pile”: Sigrid’s Diary: 30 June 1980, the start of a long Summer of love. - Richard and Sigrid were officially a couple for several months at this point, but they tried to kept their relationship secret mainly because Sigrid attended an all-girls academy that prohibits dating (people were also wary of Richard constantly staying in a house where a single mother and her daughter lived in). This was the longest time Richard stayed with Sigrid and her mother Aina after traveling, which was a great help with hundreds of plants growing in the greenhouse and a large litter of Tatzelwurms trying to invade the backyard again. Richard also spent a lot of time trying to develop new medicine for his patients abroad using Aina’s rare plants - many resulting in failure or being too potent (he actually made a Tatzelwurm repellent that lasted a few days, the base his son Johannes Faustuz would use to make finally one that lasted indefinitely). Sigrid and Richard spent each night of July and August either stargazing in the backyard with the cats Hedy and Odin, walking around the empty streets holding hands, watching movies/TV shows, singing and dancing along with the radio and old Disco records (Death’s favorite music is Disco), sleeping together in her bedroom, or playing the latest video games at the arcade (where classmates randomly saw Sigrid being romantic with Richard). Richard eventually went back to Kiel in September, promising Sigrid he’ll be back as soon as he finishes work at his office.
